Editorial Review for Pueblo Solis – by Melissa Martin
In Short
This intimate, pleasantly dim dining room (think muted beige and terra cotta) contains no Mexican flags, no wrought iron railings and no pinatas. Chatting professionals, young couples and area families enjoy a menu that straddles the line between familiar and adventuresome, such as potato quesadillas with asadero cheese and roasted chicken with achiote. Try a bowl of menudo, a spicy tripe soup, or escabeche, a Spanish dish of marinated fish served cold as an appetizer.

My in-laws introduced us to this places a few years ago, and we’ve been hooked ever since. When it was smaller, there were sometimes long waits on weekends. However, they’ve since expanded the dining room twice, and I can’t recall waiting more than 5 min to be seated no matter what day of the week or time of the evening we’ve visited for at least two years. Kevin is a gem! We always request to sit in his section because he’s so nice & attentive. The guacamole, fresh chips & salsa, and margaritas – which are made WITHOUT nasty sweet & sour mix – are all outstanding. Unlimited chips & salsa are free. The salsas are always made from the same recipe, but the hotness levels vary based on the season. The waiters typically do offer guacamole, and the price of it is listed right on the menu. I’ve never seen a Mexican place where that was just given away – avocados aren’t cheap. I haven’t tried anything on the menu that’s not great. Someone complained about the portion sizes. I don’t understand this. I always have enough food to make two meals, and it’s still good reheated the next day, and that’s considering I avoid the specials, which could probably feed me for 3-4 meals. I visited the Southwest a couple of years ago, and had authentic Mexican in New Mexico, Arizona & California. I didn’t find any place that was better than Pueblo Solis, but did find a few that paled in comparison.
Pros: Great service, fabulous fresh food & margaritas
Cons: Limited parking next to restaurant, but plenty on streets of nearby neighborhoods

Having recently moved here from LA, I have longed for good Mexican food. I would say now that I have found it. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff very friendly and the food top notch. I am amazed as some of the posts have talked about rude service. I disagree...my experience was quite the contrary. We experienced very friendly and attentive waiters. The chips and salsa are amazing. They present 3 different salsas that are fresh and very tasty. I ordered the combo plate and everything was fresh, and served hot. The sopapilla desert was amazing with an incredible raspberry sauce on top of a cinammon sopapilla topped with fresh mango, blueberries and ice cream. The margaritas are great too. I highly suggest this place. I am looking forward to going again and sitting on the outdoor patio.
