Editorial Review for The Ritz-Carlton St Louis – by Gayot.com
The Scene
In the hotel world, the word "dependable" can suggest boring, but when it comes to the Ritz-Carlton hotel group, it is the highest praise. The reliably luxurious tone is set the moment you arrive at this gracious property in the upscale suburb of Clayton. In front of the building, willowy bronze ballerinas dance gracefully in a fountain.
The Details
The 301 rooms, suites and Club Level accommodations are in keeping with the chain's style--understated sophistication. Draping valances add glamour, while traditional furnishings provide comfort. All of the rooms feature private balconies. Along with the expected dining venues, there is also a Wine Room, whose specialty menus correlate with major wine-producing regions. Over 200 kinds of martinis are offered in The Lobby Lounge, and the extensive menu at The Cigar Club includes pre-embargo Cubans. Meeting space includes the 12,000-plus-square-foot Grand Ballroom, a 198-seat amphitheater and boardrooms. Wedding services range from bridal shower teas and martini bachelor nights to expansive receptions.

Located in downtown Clayton near Washington University, is the well known but less than accommadating Ritz Carlton. After many visits over the last 2 1/2 years I've concluded the hotel is convenient to the University but several staff members that greet the public should be replaced. The hotel considered expensive by most travelers is clean, there is a nice sushi bar adjoining the lobby, the rooms are adequate, luxury room amenities minimial, the restaurant has an impressive brunch on the holidays. Pros: One can self park in the garage behind the hotel.
