Editorial Review for Soulard – by John S. McFarland
The History
First known as "Frenchtown," this old part of St. Louis was home to many original St. Louisians. The streets are stilled lined with their homes, many now restored to their intended elegance.
The Ambience
Soulard is also home to Soulard Market, its spiritual and geographic hub. Every weekend the market fills with fresh produce and a clientele that ranges from the well-heeled to the just-immigrated. The neighborhood also features plenty of bars and restaurants, and hosts St. Louis' annual Mardi Gras and Bastille Day celebrations.
