The Scene
The bartenders at Churchill's shake up a mean martini. While the apple martini craze may have come and gone already in larger cities, it's going strong in St. Louis, and Churchill's version won't disappoint. You can choose from sweeter martinis such as strawberry, raspberry and peach; those that will make your mouth pucker, like the lemon drop; and classic selections like the dirty, which is just the right balance between Ketel One and olive juice. If martinis aren't your thing, there are plenty of wines, cognacs and single-malt scotches to choose from. With premium ingredients and an upscale setting, be prepared to drop some cash here, where the martinis cost $8 and $9 each.
The Crowd
You'll find mostly young urban professionals at Churchill's, those who can afford the steep drink prices and enjoy--or at least pretend to enjoy--the finer things in life. The walk-in humidor attracts a cigar-smoking crowd, and the intimate space can get both smoky and loud. Comfortable club chairs and sofas surrounding small tables make for ideal socializing and relaxing, but the bar is the best place to check out the latest arrivals.
