Editorial Review for First Watch – by Krishna Knabe

The Scene
Superior service is a hallmark of First Watch. If you have to wait for a table, you can do so with a free cup of coffee and plenty of comfortable places to sit. Large groups, separate checks, extra plates or substitutions are no problem. The high standards draw a diverse crowd, ranging from West County executives to teens from the nearby day school to moms with small children. And thanks to generous table spacing, you don't have to hear any of their conversations.

The Food
The food will satisfy health-conscious vegetarians and devout carnivores alike. Egg whites, oatmeal and granola share menu space with biscuits and gravy, Western omelettes and French toast. Lest you think it's just a breakfast place, First Watch also has a broad selection of sandwiches and salad bowls for the lunch crowd.

i am really disappointed with the st. louis area. folks go out so that they can eat something that tastes way better than the way they cook. but i think i can probably cook better. i don't know. maybe it's because i've eaten in other places. but restaurant owers in st. louis can't cook.

Pros: hm.. at least st louis HAS a breakfast place?

Cons: food and the cost considering the food

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I read the other reviews and people were right. On the weekend (we went Sunday morn at 9:00) there is a wait, but it was not all that long (15 min). I have waited longer for less quality many times at other places. There were no less than 20 people waiting when we arrived and yet we were seated in 15 minutes. They handled parties of 2, 7, 9 and more in amazing time and nobody felt "rushed". The atmosphere is so relaxed you don't mind the wait at all, not to mention the fact that coffee is available as soon as you walk in (no charge). They have a person on the floor watching everything. As soon as a table clears, he signals someone and that table becomes available. They are SO organized! And now, the Food! "Best breakfast I have ever had outside of my home" (ok, maybe a bit better than mine). My friend could not stop raving about how perfect her eggs were. We both had a full meal and I thought they made a mistake on the bill. It cost us less to eat here than it did at any of the other "common' breakfast places ie: Denny's, Waffle House, Cracker Barrell, BobEvans, IHOP, etc. Everyone at this establishment is professional. That is why there is a brief wait. Good things come to those who wait.........Delicious!

Pros: Wonderful food, wonderful people, great building, great prices. good coffee, and more.

Cons: They won't let you stay overnight.

Tucked into an unassuming plaza in Chesterfield, this breakfast and lunch place is a winner.  See the full editorial review.
