The 2nd Best Thing to the South!!!. Best Gumbo!!! The owner Sid, is a real southern gentleman!!! The food was great and made me really miss Louisiana!!!

Great Place. It is very hard to find authentic Cajun food outside of the south but The Gumbo shop is a awesome. We treat ourselves once a month and that is a 20 minute drive from the office. The entire menu is great.

Spice in the Land-o-Bland!. Great Jambalaya - my favorite. My wife's a fan of their Red Beans & Rice. Even the cornbread's special. We moved to St. Louis from Abita Springs, Louisiana and most of our family is in the Baton Rouge area. My wife was born in the same town as The Gumbo Shop's owner and cajun food is a way of life for us. Go and enjoy!!! Lots-o-Pappa

Best Cajun Food ANYWHERE!. If you are looking for Cajun food at it's finest, look no further than The Gumbo Shop. They serve up the most delectable Cajun catfish, gumbo and other fine fare. Don't expect fancy seating or implements, just come expecting the finest food you've ever put in your mouth! Parking can be an issue.

best cajun in town. been wanting to try for a while. finally got over there and ordered crawfish etoufee to go. extremely tasty!!! good portion also plenty of food.....go there you wont be dissapointed....................

Outstanding!. Just as diamonds that come in small packages can delight the recipient , this tiny restaurant will delight your taste buds. It serves great Cajun seafood at very reasonable prices (unlike diamond prices). The Gumbo Shop food is as good as you'll find anywhere in Louisiana.

Great New Orleans Food. The Gumbo Shop is one of St. Louis' most authentic New Orleans seafood restaurants. The interior is simple but inviting. Being from New Orleans I can tell you that the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. The Jambala and Gumbo are fantastic as well as the fried catfish. The shrimp poboys are delicious and well worth the price (they will be a bit more expensive than a great seafood poboy in New Orleans but we are not living on the Gulf Coast here in St. louis). This place is my New Orleans fix when I get the urge for great New Orleans seafood. Give it a try.

Locals satisfy their cravings for Cajun at this Rock Hill favorite.. The Scene
There's not much to this tiny corner spot--a counter, a few tables, some fishing net and 'gator photos on the walls--but the Gumbo Shop has gained a loyal following since opening in early 2000. Locals stream in for lunchtime takeout (the lucky few manage to snag a seat), and friendly, fast service keeps them coming back.

The Food
If it's deep-fried, you'll find it on the classic Cajun menu--from crab cakes and hush puppies to catfish nuggets, frog legs, chicken tenders and oysters--all of it served super-casual on styrofoam plates. Gumbo's a great start, chunky with sausage and shrimp and bathing in a dark, earthy roux. Flaky, tender, and served on a mound of flavorful jambalaya, the Saturday special of blackened catfish is worth waiting till the weekend for. Pop a few crispy fried oysters into your mouth and do your best to finish off a hearty shrimp po-boy--just make sure to leave room for the Shop's signature bread pudding.
