Good for drinks...from the bar....that's it. The patio is beautiful and the ambiance inside and out is lovely. The food is “good” but noting to write home about. I recommend going here for drinks and socializing more then dinning. I have had more then one bad experience with the service. I am a very nice customer and a great tipper – but I have had three servers treat me with a very snobby attitude. The first time we went we had a group of about 8 girls. We just wanted some light appetizers as it was late at night and lots of drinks. We were treated very poorly… as if they thought we weren’t spending enough money/ordering enough food/or weren’t going to tip well. WRONG. We spent lots of money and would have tipped great if anyone had EVER been nice to us; we’re no fools, we don’t tip servers that are rude. And the servers changed during our meal and the first AND second server treated us the same way. I went there for a anniversary dinner with just my boyfriend and ordered drinks and app.’s and a meal and had a coupon and the server acted like we weren't good enough AGAIN! I’m not sorry I have a coupon, its win-win for everyone – I get a great price for my food and you still get tipped off the original price. If they think they are too good for me, that’s just fine, I can spend my money tipping servers at one of the other HUNDREDS of restaurants in St. Louis…I’d advice you do the same if you don’t like being treated like a peasant.
Cafe Eau at the Chase Park Plaza. The atmosphere of the bar/restaurant is great. The entertainment is great. However, that is where it begins and ends. The drink and dinner menus are ridiculously overpriced. Salads are $14.00. Sandwiches are $14-18.00. We ordered a chicken breast entree, accompanied by potatoes, green beans and a dinner salad. The entree arrived with two to three ounces of chicken breast surrounded by sliced potatoes, four slivers of field greens, and three green beans (the aforementioned "dinner salad" and "vegetable"). All of this for $18.00. Need I say more?
Awesome martinis!. They have great martinis, but they are a little expensive. Love the atmosphere and live band on a Saturday night. Not your typical "bar" atmosphere since it's connected to the Chase Park Plaza Hotel.
Pleasant, contemporary room lures the beautiful set to socialize over reasonably priced bistro fare..
In Short
Light floods through a wall of windows overlooking Lindell and the cafe's patio. After sunset, young, sexy crowds fill the room to SRO capacity to flirt and fraternize. A menu of small plates, pizzas, sandwiches and entrees allows diners to sample the imaginative American cuisine offered at sister establishment Eau Bistro, at lower prices. Solid offerings include steamed lamb dumplings stone crab with sticky rice cakes, and pork loin with creamed corn risotto.
not recommended by me. They were busy, it was a Saturday night, but they appeared to be understaffed with underqualified waiters. Had to wait approx. 30 min for first round of drinks, waiter forgot one of two appetizers, my medium rare sirloin steak salad came medium well. I love the bar, but I'll never eat here again.
Chic doesn't come cheap. Definitely a trendy spot that doesnt overlook many details. The decor is elegant but with modern touches that keep it from being stuffy. I found it to be relaxing. The staff is professional. I dined on a Wednesday night at a little after 7:00 p.m.; I and my date were one of only two couples in the restaurant. I assume it is much busier on weekends, and the Eau cafe across the hall was doing a livelier business. The food was artistically presented and the wine list diverse. My hickory-smoked salmon was top-notch. The biggest disappointment was the television above the bar; I felt that it compromised the class and atmosphere of the restaurant; for the price I expected a little more formalitythe tv simply doesnt fit. I recommend Eau as a place for a quiet romantic evening.
