Great take out bbq

by CSMobileUser3

Visiting for a HS sports tourney, we found Smoki O's on the web and saw that it was close to our hotel near the Arch. Traveled up 4th St to N Brdway past the Edw Jones Centrer and found the place. Don't worry about what it looks like...the people are great inside and thre food is special. We had hoped to be able to eat there but there are no inside tables. There are some counters, but its not conducive to eating in. We were there in January so the outside tables didn't work for us.

We thought he menu was great. Hadn't heard of snoot before and learned it was the back portion of the nose fried like chitterlings.

The portions were very well sized-especially the rib tips. The brisket was juicy and tender, and smoked nicely. Didn't order the slab, but I am sure it is exceptional at $18 (full). The sides were great-loved the mac&cheese and the greens.

Also on the menu... a polish, wings, and pulled pork and chicken... I wish we could have tried more.

And the desserts were home made, fresh, and big enough to be shared. the lemon pound cake was wonderful and the peach cobbler was full of fruit and great crust.

Overall, it is in a place you usually wouldn't consider stopping at, but it is safe, authentic, and well worth the trip especially if you're downtown, hungry and have a place to bring the food back to if its cold outside since there aren't indoor tables.

Alot for the price

by ribrouser

First time visiting this site.Had 9 hungry people wanting bbq. While driving down Broadway ( about 1 mile from the Rams Stadium) saw the sign and went in. Before going in though, saw an employee out back. Asked him if it was worth stopping. He smiled and said "you won't regret it" He was so right !!! Fed all 9 people for under $100 and even had leftovers to take back to Indiana to feed a 10th. Stop here - "YOU WONT REGRET IT" !!!!

  • Pros: Freindly,Happy Family with excellent Customer Service
  • Cons: No dining room area except a bar level counter to eat at. Need Picnic tables outside.

Wings and Things!

by msgriot

Smokie O's has THE BEST chicken wings and most decadent desserts I've ever had. All of the food is delicious, but if you want to experience eating ecstasy, try some chicken wings and a German Chocolate Cake! Ok, actually, you could try some rib tips and Carrot cake, or a polish and Cheese cake, or just try it all!

  • Pros: the food is deilcious and the staff is wonderful
  • Cons: If i eat there too many times, I won't be able to move!

Super good, super friendly, well worth the trip

by jvosh1

Amazing. Great food, great people, great value. It is a bit out of the way, but they make you feel at home. I wasn't prepared to like it as much as i did, the only bad thing i can say is that they are more of a take out, but they do have some stools, and they don't have a liqour license, but once you taste the food it really doesn't matter. I'd eat there at least once a week if i could. Well worth it.

  • Pros: Food, service, prompt
  • Cons: Location, seating

Best BarBQue

by Harveyf

Went here after reading on City Search. A Great tip. Very friendly staff. No ambiance so don't expect it. Could be St. Louis answer to Arther Bryant's in KC if six times larger and busier. You wont be disappointed unless ambiance is more important than food. Don't be afraid of the neigborhood. It is basically an empty warehouse district. We went on a tuesday night before the ballgame. They had mostly carry outs including one large limo. Our group tasted the ribs the tips and the brisket all was excellent. We asked for the lean cut of brisket (the thin end). It was exceptional.
