From The Owner of Smelly Dog

Dog Grooming and Doggie Day Care

Tips for Smelly Dog

February 28, 2013

Apparently they are under new management (again) as of summer 2012. Decided to give them another try and I couldn't be happier. Place is much cleaner than I remember, and everyone there is very friendly. Have had both groomers work on my dog, and every time he looks great. I would definitely recommend Smelly Dog. They also have daycare. And they have web site. smelly-dog

They did a horrible job.. I took my small dog to be shampooed. They had him for 4 hours. When I went to pick him up, he looked exactly the same (not kidding). I have since asked to speak with the owner, who has yet to call me back. The customer service was absolutely terrible. If you care for your dog, I would not recommend this place. I had a completely disheartening experience.

This is the place for Dogs!!!!. I just got a new puppy about 2 months ago, she's 11 months old, 50 lbs and a ball of energy! Smelly Dog is slightly over a mile from where I live and I had taken my last dog here about 8-10 years ago and had no problems. Since I got my new puppy I immediately started bringing her here because I had a great experience before. I talked to the owner and found out she had just taken the place over and she told me about the prior owners. Their prices are so very reasonable and they are great with the dogs. My dog loves it there and I haven't had a problem. I would recommend this place to everyone. They also do a Doggie Day Care at a very great price and this has been a lifesaver for my high energy dog! I take her there 3-4 times a week and she just loves it and she's more relaxed when I get her home and she's able to socialize with other dogs which is huge!! These dogs are not in crates for 5-6 hours and only having an hour or two to play, they are running around the store in all day, which I think is wonderful. Compared to a few other places I've checked out for Doggie Day Care that charge double what Smelly Dog charges and those dogs only get 2 hours of play and socialization with the others dogs. For that kind of money, I'll leave my dog at home and save the cash. So if you live in the Creve Coeur or Chesterfield area and need a great groomer or day care place for your pet, this is the place to go Dog Lovers. These people love dogs and this is not some big corporate owned place that only cares about the almighty buck. So whatever you heard in the past or experienced, forget all of that and give the new owner a chance. You won't be disappointed!

NEW MGMT - GREAT SERVICE, NEW DECOR!!. While I agree somewhat with the earlier posters, this establishment is under new management who is a dog lover. The place is completely redecorated with all sorts of dog items. The owner is very friendly and accomodating. I have had both our dogs in day care and for baths and grooming on multiple occasions and the service was very good.

Don't do it!!. Dreadful! I dropped my dog off for grooming, I had not choice but to leave her because it was hot and I had to get work. The is terrible. She looks terrible. She more dirty than when I a dropped her off. She smelled like someone had sprayed her with something to cover up the smell she picked up from being in a dirty place all day. I have never had to give my dog a bath right after picking her up at the groomer. When we returned home, she ran right to the water bowl and drank it all, telling me that she had no water available all day. I have never seen my dog so desperate to leave anywhere. Don't do it.

Smelly Dog Smells. Passed this place on Olive and was curious about it--loved the name. Looked online and could not find a webpage for the business ( first red flag). Stopped in to check the place out and was horrified. The place reeked of urine (second-MAJOR-red flag). There were no listings of services provided or fees on the wall. I asked for any sort of flyer with their price structuring on it and was informed that they didn't have one (third red flag). Out of curiosity I asked the price and a shampoo and nail trim for my dog, the price they quoted me was 3 times (seriously) what I have paid elsewhere! I am convinced the worker just made the price up off the top of her head. I left after that. The establishment was dirty and smelly and showed no evidence of operating like a reputable business. I would never bring my dog to such a place. I felt dirty just having been in there. STAY AWAY

Great Experience. Our two dogs love Smelly Dog. The groomers love the dogs. I think they have wonderful prices. Our Dogs usually smell very nice after their visit. Not to sure what happened with the other review but I always pick up my dogs and never had a smelly issue.

A Regular Customer Speaks Up. I have used Smelly Dog for three years for both my dogs and two cats. They have always; done precisely what I asked, done it on time and their grooming has been outstanding. Their fees are quite reasonable and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. I have absolutely no hesitation in reccomending Smelly Dog. Their are a number of places I could take my pets closer to home but why would I when I know what to expect with them? It may not be the salon in town

Very good experience. I was visiting St Louis and definitely needed to get my dog groomed. I was greeted by a woman who seemed to definitely enjoyed her job and liked dogs. My dog was ready at the time I was told and was groomed very well. I will definitely use this establishment again.

My dog actually came out smelly.. This place is near my place of business, so dropping my dog off was very convenient.

I took my dog in and then had someone pick the dog up for me later and take the dog to my house, as I was going to be working late.

When I got home, I noticed my dog had an "off" smell. Not exactly like my dog had rolled in a pile of dung, but still stinky enough that another bath was needed!

My friend who picked up the dog said the place really smelled. Evidently, enough so that the smell permeated my freshly groomed dog and stunk up my friend's car. In all the times I've had my dog groomed, this has never happened. (BTW, my dog was at the groomers for about 4-5 hours total. I had *not* noticed a smell upon bringing my dog in that morning.)

At first, I was going to ignore the whole thing and just switch to a different groomer... But a few days later, I decided that I'd call to complain, because after all, bathing is a big part of grooming, right? Why bring the dog in if you have to re-bathe the dog yourself? I decided to ask for a partial refund or at least a "rain check" for a free future dog bath.

When I called and told my story to the woman who answered the phone, she told me she would have the owner call me the next day to discuss the situation. I never received a phone call.

Perhaps someone else has had okay service from this place, but to send me home with a smelly dog, literally, and then not fix the problem, was very "stinky" customer service, as far as I'm concerned.

I personally will be taking my dog elsewhere from now on and recommending that others do the same. YMMV.
