Gather here Amigos!

by redveronica

I moved away from St. Louis almost 10 months ago and on a recent trip back in December, my husband and I were SURE to stop by Maya. Things were as awesome as always!!! The brisket is always tender and tasty, probably the BEST margaritas I have ever had in my whole life (the juice is made from scratch-no bottled stuff here!), and the pollo en pepian dulce is to die for! If the food and margaritas weren't that great for you, the atmosphere and the staff make up for it. There is always a great bartender there playing cool tunes and I have met all of the oweners/chef who make a point to check on the dining room. For the idiot who thought that they would open a restaurant with a cardboard wall-they were remodeling on the other side trying to accommodate the bulk of people that appreciate dishes from ACROSS the Latin region. Go back during summer and sit on the patio. It rocks!

A bit disappointed...

by buggalet

I went to Maya Cafe for the second time last weekend. The first time I went, it was an enjoyable experience. I sat on the patio, drank a capirinha and had the fish special. The service was great! So when my friend offered to take me out for my birthday dinner I suggested this place. Well, this time, I was a quite disappointed. The service was HORRIBLE. The food was awful. We ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer and when the FINALLY came out the bottom was burned and not edible, my friend ordered the pork chops for dinner and those were WAY undercooked. I got the brisket and it was OK, but I could have done the same thing at home, they were pretty much tasteless! I don't know if it was a different cook or if they were just having an off-night. But I was very disappointed with the entire experience and a little embarassed that I suggested it to a friend. I probably won't go back.

Great Atmosphere

by serapis

Had been meaning to eat there for sometime - glad that I finally made the time.

They have been expanding, and are nearly finished. The atmosphere is terrific - the wait staff is fast and friendly. The food is marvelous, and far from ordinary. Had the steak burritos and they were marvelous, with a generous portion of meat. Got out for under $10.00. You can't beat that.

Next door (same building) is The Focal Point, a small eclectic concert hall.

Take in dinner and a show. It is well worth the time.

  • Pros: Everything. Fast, friendly affordable. (Park around back)
  • Cons: None
