Editorial Review for La Piazza – by Andy Kamenetzky

The Scene
Light piano music and peach walls help create a warm tranquility. Candles and hanging paper lanterns provide most of the room's soft light, fashioning the perfect ambience for romance. A mature, mellow crowd enjoys an extensive wine list and pleasant, well-paced service.

The Food
A blend of Italian and American, La Piazza's menu can be hit-or-miss. Regulars begin with crisp crab cakes spiked with hints of cilantro and green pepper, but know to order the overpowering garlic aioli on the side. The pork tenderloin wrapped in tender pepper bacon and the Hawaiian ahi, both bathed in robust wine reduction sauces, are cooked to perfect juiciness. Both, however, suffer from a side of undercooked vegetables. The sole dessert, Fallen Chocolate Cake, is warm, gooey decadence.

The Extras

Smoking laws in St. Louis restaurants sometimes mean a smoky meal, but La Piazza only allows cigarettes on the patio.

Very nice ambience, great wine list, the best thing on the menu is the lasagna. Outstanding lasagna. Tried one bowtie pasta dish and it was not very good, but the lasagna is some of the best ever.

Pros: ambience, wine list, lasagna

La Piazza is a great place to dine, especially when the outdoor patio is open. This restaurant is nestled in a quiet part of U.City and offers a nice variety of French/Italian entrees. The gnochi is particulary good. A great place to take a date, quiet and not overdone.

Pros: quiet, romantic, good variety

Cons: limited patio seating, small interior
