Bringing fine Italian food to Chicago since 1991

True to Tuscan cuisine, Tony Priolo has created a menu, which consists of flavors and dishes that are prepared seasonally with the best local ingredients. Never excessively elaborate, the dominant character of Chef Priolo's cooking is certainly its simplicity. In harmony with the menu, co-owner Tamra Weiss has created an Italian-only wine list. Expect to peruse and sample a well-rounded, Wine Spectator award-wining list, which boasts a large selection of popular, and small production Italian wines.

At Coco Pazzo, the focus is a straightforward dedication to the essence of Tuscan cuisine and culture.

Editorial Review for Coco Pazzo – by Elisa Kronish

The Scene
Dramatic velvet curtains frame windows and separate sections of this loft space, a favorite of River North diners. Rustic wood floors, exposed beams, soft lighting and whimsical centerpieces take the edge off serious business.

The Food
The menu offers carefully planned, lusty Italian fare. Start with grilled oyster mushrooms, toasty and peppery, over baby spinach. Other antipasti include cod croquettes, calamari, wild boar ragu and seared beef carpaccio. Creative entrees include pheasant breast, Peking duck, venison, veal and a 26-ounce rib eye. North Atlantic salmon wins high praise--sweet and moist, served with an earthy medley of Swiss chard, grapes and thyme. The lamb special (never on the menu, always offered) is a must. Pasta dishes are rich and flavorful, such as the farfalle pasta with mushrooms, peas, pesto-tomato sauce and goat cheese. Killer desserts include peanut- and chocolate-swirl ice cream with toasted peanuts.

We went on Father's day evening and had a really enjoyable evening. There were 3 generations at the table ranging from 75 years old to 10 years old, added to that , half the party was vegetarian. The wait staff were wonderful, guiding us through the vegetarian options and providing a lovely plate of crispy bread and a white bean dip (for free). My father in law asked for a bruchetta (which wasn't on the menu) and they made it for us and it was delicious. The food was excellent especially the pizza. Again, for dessert my son wanted just plain chocolate ice cream and they got it for him. The evening was wonderful made especially so by the really attentive wait staff.

What a wonderful meal. The Gnocchi appetizer was just the right size and I thought it was spectacular. Next was the Tortelli DiZucca, and all I can say is, Oh My God! You should experience it to truly understand it. The Ossobuco was the most tender I have had in....ever. The wine was exceptional, the wait staff was always there, but did not hover. We will definitely return, as often as it is possible.

Pros: By far the food and wait staff

Cons: A little on the noisy side
