I relocated and the gym would not cancel my membership. I talked to the corporate offices in addition to Katie McGrory (Gym manager) and neither would let me out of my membership. When i tried to transfer my membership to another golds gym, they would not let me transfer my membership and told me i had to get a new membership in addition to the one at Dorsett Rd. The staff is very rude and not welcoming. Machines are always dirty and broken. There is never any maintenance staff around so the restrooms and lockers smell like urine. The toilets are always clogged with feces visible. I would not recommend going to this golds gym or any other golds gyms. Their corporate practices to "steal" customers funds and maintain their facilities is well below what customers should expect from a gym.
Despite its Hollywood connections, this franchise's focus is on pumping iron, not newfangled razzle-dazzle. – In Short
The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Take note: The boys with bulging biceps are the mascots, not the majority. Gold's generally offers Spinning, aerobics and kickboxing classes, yet weight-training remains the core of the program. Dumbbells and barbells, not spa-like amenities, are the attractions that draw the beef-heads in droves.
If you just want to work out – IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO WORK OUT AND DON'T WANT YOUR HEALTH CLUB TO BE A SOCIAL CLUB, THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE YOU CAN GET IT DONE. NEVER TOO CROWDED.
Poor Management – I signed up for the fitness classes and within a month classes were changed and then dropped. The person in charge of scheduling classese was unresponsive and rude. The equipment is often in disrepair. Three of the tvs were set on "how to use dish network" and when I asked for them to be put on a channel the woman at the desk said "We can't do that. Corporate sets the channels." Very unhappy with how this gym is run and maintained. Woman's locker room was dirty, toilet seats broken.
where's the service I was promised – When I joined I was promised that I would be given all the tools needed to get in shape. All I got was a huge dent in my wallet from personal trainer fees. This would have been fine if I got in shape, but I saw no results. The gym itself seemed great but my overall experience was not. I felt like I was not a priority.
GREAT GYM BUT... – I love this gym due to the hours and where it is located. But I hate the fact that the machines are always broken for a long period of time and it's not just one its three or four.
Great people working there – I am only going to be in St. Louis for a short period of time. They worked with me on the price of a short-term membership. I also started with a trainer in a weight loss workout program. Great program, but VERY difficult and intense for about 45/50 minutes. It combines cardio and weight training. I definitely recommend the Gold's Gym in Maryland Heights - I can't speak for any of the others.
