Unpleasant experience. We were visiting St. Louis on last weekend (10/10/10) and I was told Porter's is the best place for Steaks. We decided to have dinner at Porter's. We ordered Pepperloin Steak along with the Lobster Bisque soup.

Soup was cold and spilled around the bowl. After we were done with the soup, the waiter picks up the bowl and drops spoon on my shirt. I had to get up and rinse my shirt at the wash room.

Food itself was pretty good. I ordered a 16 oz. steak and it looked very small. After our main course we ordered Chocolate Tiramisu for dessert. Again, the portion was really small.

Service and presentation was definitely not satisfactory.

Very pricey for the given portions.

Horrible Experience Today at Porters. I have always heard how good the food at Porters was....so I took clients there today....and it was horrible!

First, we started off with the soup of the day, Lobster bisque. Then we ordered the Pepperloin Sandwich, which was highly recommended by the server. And instead of fries on the side, we specifically asked for the homemeade chips. In fact. my clients were looking forward to these chips. They sounded great!

Ok, the food arrives....and the soup was spilled all over the side of our cups....yes...i said cups. It was like a large shot glass of soup. I don't mind paying $4 for a cup of coup...but c'mon! Make it a CUP OF SOUP! As far as taste....the Lobster bisque was ok. No real complaints with the taste..just the portion and presentation. Oh yeah...and they fact that they "ran out of soup spoons". How do you run out of your flatware?!!!

As far as the sandwich....although the meat was well cooked and seasoned....the portion was appropriate for my four year old daughter. I couldn't believe just how small it was! It didn't even cover 2/3 of the bun. I was almost embarrassed for them! Again, taste wasn't so much the issue as it was the incredibly small size.

The biggest disappointment of the day was the homemade chips....or lack of. When our server arrived, she said, "I gave you all half chips and half fries, so you have best of both worlds" The only problems....WE DIDN'T ASK FOR FRIES!!!!!! We specifically asked for chips...not fries. So apparently Porters reserves the right to substitute items for you if they want. That' s nice. As I looked at everyone's plate, it became apparent why we got "best of both worlds". There was a total of 4 chips on each plate! Seriously...FOUR CHIPS!!! instead of telling us they ran out, they tried to pull a fast one on us. Classless!

Honestly, I don't think I'll be back to Porters any time soon. If you find yourself going to Porters....make sure you eat first!

Garbage on a plate. This place represents a pathetic attempt to provide a classy sophisticated atmosphere. The food was okay, but the service was horrid, the portions almost non-existent, the atmosphere was tacky and the food was incredibly over priced for what you actually get. I'd put this place on par with a bad applebee's.

Avoid - new owners!. It is so sad to tell all but new owners have ruined this legend. The food is now cheap cuts of meat. The hotel has been taken over by the courts and they run it like a Holiday Inn restaurant now

One of the best steaks ever. I have been to the best in Chicago, Denver and Phoenix and this tops them all.. The steaks are second to none. Prepared just to your liking. The deserts are decadent, large and eye popping. Service is second to none. Very friendly and the best wine steward in the area. We go there no matter what. anniversary, birthday and brunches. All spectacular.

You dont know what you are missing.

excellent Food. Porter's is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food and always wonderful service. Their Pepperloin with mustard sauce is outstanding. They are a little pricey but well worth the money spent. This is always a favorite place of ours when we are celebrating special events

Best around. This is the best steak house I have ever been to. The Ambiance is wonderful, and they have the most mouth watering tenderloin I have ever had. After taking the leftovers home and warming them up the next day, it was still the most tender steak I have ever eaten!

Definitely recommended!
