Alton >Argosy Casino Alton
Bring and have lots of money to loose.
There is a good reason why this place is never first on anyone's list, second, or third, for a place to go and gamble or just hang it. They NEVER ever have loose machines, ever. The staff is very rude, they hang out in bunches and act like your in their way if you try to get by. Heaven forbid you go out to the smoke shacks. Thats another place they hang out huddled under the heaters or in front of the TV's. Food is not that great, takes a long time, and its either burnt or half cooked. The buffet is always stale, and as the other post says, bugs flying around. Do not waste the extra miles, and try your luck. You will loose, loose loose. I think St Louis should boycotte this little boat for a day. If they are so tight they can't loosen a machine up every now and then, lets so how they like it if no one ever goes for just one day.
The best and only way I know to get their attention is to NOT GO there. At least at Queen, Ameristar, and Harrahs you get the chance to win something.
Trust me and hundreds of others, it is NOT worth the LONG drive out there.
Lets says February 10th is BOYCOTTE Argocy Alton! NO one show up there. Force them to do something about their TIGHT machines.
I hated it. If you spend time on the Alton Belle and enjoy yourself your really should consider being a nursing home worker. You will be around the same kind of people, get use to oxygen masks and wheel chairs and toddering elderly. The place is dank and stuffy and depressing and aside from the elderly there is a handful of desperate looking scary people. I was there twice and hated it. It's like going to your grandpa's basement and playing a slot machine.
Oxygen/Gas Mask required. I guess my headline says it all. I totally understand that typical 'casino people' are heavy smokers and complaining about inhaling second hand smoke in a casino is like going to a bar and complaining about the drunks .... but .... this place takes the cake. The stench in the parking lot alone should be a warning. Also, be prepared to literally rub elbows with (the place is very congested and claustrophobic) the lowest class of people you can imagine. I'm talking beer chugging obese women in housedresses and slippers, local farmers still wearing their overalls, and of course the usual welfare recipients from 'da hood' who have no business whatsover blowing their rent money in a casino. Trust me, you have to see this place to believe it.
The Alton Belle Casino might not be close to home, but many gamblers think it's worth the drive..
On deck, Argosy's Music Hall features live music and the Key West Bar transports you to tropical climes. The Captain's Table buffet has a carving table with two daily choices, such as prime rib, pork and chicken. Or try the circular soup, salad, pasta, fruit and dessert bar. Other choices include Chinese, Mexican, barbecue and seafood dishes. The Belle also has a food court and Outfitters Grill, an American restaurant that serves steaks, ribs, chicken and burgers.
