1950s diner fries up fast-food classics 24 hours a day.. In Short
Entering the clean, bright interior is like stepping into an "Archie" comic book. Hurrying across white- and black-checkered floors, staff in crisp white shirts and paper hats take orders, polish chrome and shuffle between booths and the full-service counter. Middle-American diner standards dominate the menu--pickle-covered steak burgers, chili cheeseburgers and thick shakes. Healthier options include chicken, chef and taco salads.

No steak deserves this.. This restaurant chain brags that they call 'em Steakburgers "because they can," but they must think steaks are best when they are roughly handled and overcooked on a grill to the point dryness. From poorly formed, crumbly patties to almost unrecognizable flavor, Steak N Shake delivers only the sizzle. Adding insult to injury is their drive-thru service. They must believe that making you wait inordinate amounts of time while they overcook your burger adds to the "made for you" cachet.
