Not the real hot spot anymore, Go to Mac's – Don't believe the HYPE!!!!!!!
As someone who has being going to Alton IL since he was little I have a very good understanding for the area. I was one of thousands that could not wait to go to Fast Eddies when I turned 21. Now that I am 32 I must say that I have had my eyes opened and that Fast Eddies is not the place that I once thought that it was. The food is not that great and the quality has gone down the past few years. I also have to say that the people that work are not friendly. A good friend of mine introduced me to a place in the downtown part of Alton called Mac's. Now this is the place to go in the summertime, wintertime, fall, and spring. Friendly service with a smile and a way better menu. The patio area is kick as@ and has plently of seating. You can bet on horse races and you can also see all the college and NFL games on all of there different TV's. I don't even waste my time anymore going to Fast Eddies because it is not were the action is anymore. Take my advice go to Macs and then stop by Danny's next store which is open till 3AM. Belive me Mac's is the place to be in Alton Il!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE PLACE!!! – I can't get over how overhyped and terrible this place was. We bought into the hype, I should have read the reviews first. There is a reason that there are so many reviews of why the service is terrible. The waitress was a straight up B*tch to us. I had one day in St. Louis and this was place was such a mistake. Go somewhere, anywhere else! Eating dog food out of toilet would have been a better experience than this place. What a Horrible, cold, bitter place to waste your time going to.
overcrowded, but fun – Great food. Love the chick on a stick. Service is not so fast or friendly, but can you really ask for much with how busy they get? They could afford to hire more help. Food is CHEAP. Drinks are priced about the same as anywhere else. Place gets a little too crowded so if you don't get being jam packed amoungst a bunch of people, then don't go here. They could afford to expand even more. Outside area is nice, but yet again is always jam packed. It'd be alot more pleasant with more space and being able to breath. I do always have fun when going here with a group of friends and tend to run into someone I know everytime. People just love this place and drive from all over to come here. I don't like the ordering system for the food. Rather than wait in a line that circles the building, can't the waitresses that serve your drinks just take your food order too? They'd make more tips that way too!
Not sooo FAST...Not Sooo Good – I've lived in St.louis all my life and this was only my second time at Fast Eddies. I have to say Im not really impressed. The so called huge basket of fries not huge at all. The big elwood is "ok" at best, chick on a stick is just that the smallest wings i've ever seen.Staff not friendly. It took 10-15 minutes to get our order and there was hardly anyone there.Only went back a second time cause my husband had never been there and wanted to try it. I wont go back.
Not Impressed... at all! – There are "ladies of the evening" that greet you as you get out of your car. And once you get inside... good luck finding a place to sit down. They say they have the cheap food and there is a good reason for that! It's terrible!! And don't even think about trying to to talk "Big Ed" he's the worst! I'd fire him in a second if he treated any of my customers the way he treated me. He's a snob from the word GO! Looking down on you as if you are nothing and no one to him not even a person let alone a paying customer! I'm truly surprised that this place is able to stay open at all!!
GREAT FOOD & GREAT FUN – Great food, Big Elwood is to die for. You can not beat the prices on the food. We go all the time with a group or just the two of us. Always have a good time.
fun & friendly – This was one of the most friendly and fun places I'd been in a long time. We enjoyed it so much we purchased a fast eddies T-shirt and funny drink holder and we're going back this wkend! The music is GREAT, the food is a good price and is delicious and the crowd and waitresses are friendly - me met new ppl, heard a really good band, drank inexpensive large draft beers and ate pork on a stick... it was fabulous. lol
Never Again – I used to frequent this bar, but I won't go back after yesterday's experience.
The "live band" was a farce...there was a saxophone player and a guitar player who doubled as the "lead singer." However, the "singer" was lip syncing! There was no drummer in "the band", but the music had drums playing. So basically, "the live band" was a DJ playing pre-recorded music (no wonder he sounded so much like Rod Stewart AND Van Morrison AND Mick Jagger AND John Mellancamp AND...)
There were five of us and we spent about $200.
We sat outside; it was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. We ordered our drinks and food. It always takes about 30-45 minutes for the food to be ready, so the long wait was not surprising. The food was overly salty and very disappointing.
Soon the trash container near us was overflowing with paper products, ketchup, bbq sauce and bottles. The trash began to draw flies and I was being bitten by the insects. I asked our waitress to get someone to take the trash. She said someone comes around about every ten minutes. About ten minutes later, the trash was still piling up. I asked our waitress again and received the same answer. Eventually, I went inside to see if I could get the "Eddie" to have the trash removed. I asked to speak to him.
Eddie came to me and did not ask what the problem was. The first thing he said: "If you don't like it, you can leave." I said I am just asking for the trash to be removed. I got the standard answer, "someone comes around every ten minutes or so". I asked if he could make sure that it happens. He kept repeating, "if you don't like it, leave." Finally, I am paraphrasing, but Eddie basically said to me, "look around you, we are always very busy and YOUR business means nothing to me. If you're not happy, leave." I was shocked! (Later our waitress verified that I was speaking to Eddie, the owner, not just a manager pretending to be Eddie.)
When I returned to my table the trash was STILL THERE. I told our waitress the story. She genuinely seemed surprised that Eddie would speak to me that way. But she then told us that there is a long list of responses that the staff is supposed to say to customers with requests. "If it is popcorn, we can only say....you can get it over there. If it is trash, we are supposed to say someone comes around every ten minutes, etc..."
After yesterday's experience, I am disillusioned by the Fast Eddie's and I won't go back. I feel as though the establishment is just a charade, not a genuine place...more like a Disney ride than a great bar.
Worst customer service – I was in Fast Eddies tonight June 1st, 2008 at 7:40 pm and was not impressed at all. waited 40 minutes for my food, and when I finaly got the food I was missing part of it. when I asked where it was the bald gentleman began searching through a bucket of reciepts....NEVER finding mine and then turned to me and said you only ordered 1 cheese burger! I will not go back, and will tell my friends the same
