Amazing food, atmosphere and waiter. I highly recommend 1111 Mississippi. From the first phone call to make the reservation, until the payment of the check, the whole experience was amazing. I went to 1111 Mississippi with a group of girl friends. To our surprise they had us seated in the wine room. It was wonderful being slightly separated from the main dining area, yet we didn't feel excluded from the fun atmosphere. I ordered the wild boar ravioli for an appetizer. It was excellent. The ravioli was cooked just right and the sauce that topped it was very flavorful. The wild boar was delicious. We each ate about 3 pieces of bread, it was that good! I ordered the halibut and exchanged the squash for goat cheese polenta. It was a wonderful combination. The halibut was very flavorful and prepared perfectly. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He treated us so well. Probably the best waiter I have had in years. It was a perfect place for our girls night out. We ordered gooey butter cake for dessert, it was not as gooey as we would have liked. Our waiter asked us about it and we told him we didn't feel it was as great as we thought it would be. He immediately offered us our choice of another dessert. We choose the bread pudding with caramel sauce. It was the BEST bread pudding! We were thrilled with the second dessert. Everything was perfect at 1111. We were very excited to get a girls night out (we are 30 something's with kids). We had high expectations and they did not disappoint. I highly recommend this restaurant for a girls night out or even a couples night out. I also saw a group with a baby! Highly recommended, one of the best restaurants in St. Louis.
Delicious food in warm and inviting ambience..
This is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis. I have been 3 times and each time have had a fabulous time. While some of the entrees can be pricey there is a good variety on the menu and it is easy for even the most budget conscience diner to find something yummy. The food is incredible. From the "BLT" (with lobster... and LOTS of it!!!) to the pork chops to the oven fired pizzas, everything is well balanced and extraordinary in every way.
Apart from the incredible food, the ambience is exceptional. There are many fireplaces to gather around or nooks to get cozy in. You just get an overall warm feeling sitting inside.
I highly recommend this restaurant as a first date. It has the added benefit of being around the corner from Bailey's Chocolate Bar. What girl could resist?
good people. 1111 Mississippi is a nice place to eat. Price is slightly high, but you get what you pay for. nice atmosphere, and a very nice management. I would recommend 1111 to anyone wanting somewhere unique to get a good lunch or a nice dinner.
Nice atmosphere, good food. I went with a few friends. I had heard about it, and was not dissapointed in the least. The wine selection is great, and so are the apetizers if you are in for some different things. I was amazed when I saw trout, rabbit, and wild boar in the menu, but everything was delicious. Great and prompt service too!
A Staple in Lafayette Square.
This is one of those restaurants that can be either the best meal you've ever had, or a disappointing experience. It depends on the night, and your server, as far as I can tell. But, luckily, I have had many more of the "best meals" than the disappointments. Their wine list is extensive--try a wine flight. They also have prix fixe "Tuscan Tuesdays" and California Trios on Thursdays that are always interesting.
The Ribeye and Stuffed Pork Chops are phenomenal! The flatbreads are usually delicious, however, the grilled chicken w' artichokes and pesto was bland on a recent visit--not enough salt or garlic in the pesto. All of the fish entrees I have tried have been delicious, and their sandwiches are great for lunch. I would like to see more options on the dessert menu, but, in all honesty, I should be thankful for the lack of temptation!
Bottom line--this is a great restaurant with a creative menu and friendly service. Out of 15 visits, you might have 14 amazing experiences and one dud. Then again, 1111 Mississippi has been around long enough to be dud-free by now. But, as good as they are 14/15 times--I'll take my chances.
The steak ribeye is probably the best I have had. I have had a lot of steak. I probably order the steak at most evey place I go unless the special sounds better. I have to say that my wife and I agree that the ribeye is the best meat we have had... ever. Having eating at Gibson's in Chicago, and Capitol Grill in Scottsdale recently we have good comparisons. The service was above average, the wine we chose was good (Argentinian), the potatoes were okay. The rabbit was good, but not great, but the polenta was excellent. As far as appetizers go, the wild boar ravioli was good, but the mussels were much better. Get the dessert sampler and you will be pleased. We will be going back as soon as we can.
Quite a scene, but I have had better.. I went with a group of 6 where it was the first time I was happy to have a table back in the corner to diffuse the noise coming from the main portion of the dining room. Our server was friendly, but a bit too friendly when he started chumming up to us and neglecting his character as a server. A few of the entrees arrived way too done, and we suspected the cause were the BRIGHT orange food warmers (that I believe doubled as "mood lighting") back in the kitchen. Maybe I need to go back with a smaller group and try this experience again, but for now I have a bad taste of charred filet in my mouth.
great innoventive menu. one of my favorite restaurants in St Louis. it is cozy, yet not crowded and the food is top notch. it has been hard to find restaurants that match my favorites back home in NYC, but this one does!
Great food, great atmosphere.
Keeping in step with the trend of renovating depressed areas of St. Louis, 1111 Mississippi set up shop in an old factory building south of downtown. The multi-level restaurant adorned in dark wood and wall hangings boasts several fireplaces throughout. The service as well as the atmosphere is warm and cozy. My friends and I dined here around the holidays. The place was packed; but our food was impeccably prepared and the wine list left little to be desired. We enjoyed a warm, wonderful evening by the fire downstairs. Order the pan seared halibut w/ sautéed zucchini, squash & saffron butter sauce. To die for!
Not sure how safe the area is, but we had to park on the street and walk to the restaurant. This and the fact that there's no place within walking distance for a nightcap are really the only drawbacks to speak of.
This could be the best restaurant in St. Louis. Coming fro NYC I'll admit that we're a bit hard to impress, but this restauarant did the trick. It reminds me of some upscale restaurants in San Francisco's mission district. Excellent, imaginative food and great service. Be sure to get a table up in the loft.
