The Scene
Tejas' owners have done surprisingly little to the interior of what was for many years Ramon's Jalapeno's Mexican Grill. The bar stretches across the western windows, attracting stylish Clayton professionals and an over-30 crowd. The dining room, meanwhile, plays host to a jumble of tables set too close together, making mobility and conversation a challenge.
The Food
As its name implies, Tejas follows a Southwestern cowboy theme. Chips and salsa bid each table welcome. Appetizers include a tasty, heavy pulled-pork empanada and a manchego and chorizo stuffed poblano chile relleno. The chewy, marinated Tejas tri-tip, a sirloin cut from the hind quarter, is full of flavor. The deliciously spiced rack of lamb is grilled to perfection. For dessert, resist the allure of the campfire-at-your-table s'mores. Papaya-ginger cheesecake provides a flawlessly light ending to a substantial meal.

I got the barbeque plate, this is Texas isn't it? I love Texas style beef brisket. I was suprised to see that the bbq plate had pulled pork, sausage, and spare ribs. The menu did specifically state it was Eastern Texas bbq. I didn't know about that distinction. Anyway, the ribs where flavorless except for the chiptole bbq sauce which was interesting. The pulled pork was also pretty flavorless. The sausage was good, but that's not too tough. The appetizer chips where Tostitios. This place is expensive without the quality. Our waitress couldn't bring us more than one drink an hour because the bartender was busy tossing bud light bottles in the bar to the bar crowd

Have only done lunch and my group is less than enthusiastic on the menu choices. The food is good but limited. Excellent service and fast. Sit outside as the inside is overcrowded with tables back-to-back. Typical Clayton-area lack of parking unless you get there before 11:30 am. Moderate prices.
