Horrible Service and Shady Selling Practices.
We saw a nice changing table on the floor and wanted to buy it. My sister went to get a sales associate while I stood by 'holding' the item. Another customer claimed she already bought the item. It turns out the customer did NOT in fact buy the item, and hadn't even yet talked to a store employee. Out of everyone involved, my sister was the first one to talk to a store associate about purchasing the item. Goodwill refused to sell us the item. A different employee said that another changing table of the same brand was in a new box in the back. We expressed interest in purchasing that item so he went to the back room to get it. He said that when he inquired about the item and situation to his manager, the manager got angry with him for asking about it and refused to sell the item out of the box.
Needless to say, we were very upset at the unethical selling practices at this Goodwill location. What is the problem if someone is willing to purchase an item you HAVE IN STOCK?! On our way out the door, a person came up to us who was not involved in the situation, and told us about the horrible experiences he'd received at this same Goodwill location. It sounds like this store manager has horrible customer service skills and is very unethical in her selling practices.
Community thrift store accepts and sells donations of used clothing and housewares for a good cause..
In Short
Nonprofit chain of stores boasts more than 2,000 retail outlets and 3,300 donation centers nationwide. The charitable model relies on community members to contribute their gently used (or new) belongings--anything ranging from business and casual wear to home appliances, children's toys to books and computers--and purchase others' donations. The proceeds from the bargain-priced wares go toward job training and career-placement services for disadvantaged populations, including welfare recipients, homeless citizens and those with physical and mental disabilities.
