The dishes are rich, flavorful, interesting and will keep you coming back again and again, even for non-vegetarians. This is what indian food is supposed to taste like! The prices are unbelievably inexpensive and the dinner portions are extremely generous. Their signature vegetable korma, the saag paneer, samosas - the okra dish - try them all. The staff is warm, friendly and very hard-working. The restaurant has also recently undergone an expansion and renovation.
Humble restaurant, great food.
Raj's Rasoi is basically in very modest location away in a quiet residential part of Maryland Heights. It is a family owned place and the owner's family practically operates it. It is a purely vegetarian place and you wont find any meat item there.
The menu choices are quite different from what you get in a usual Indian restaurant. You will find chaats / snacks like Pakoras, Samosas, Ragda Patties, Chole Batoora, Dahi Puri, Bhel Puri etc. This is only one of two area restaurants (at the time of review) to offer such choices. The food is awesome tasting ! Service is punctual and courteous. You can customize the spice level to your taste by simple telling the waitress.
We got the Paneer Pakora, Dahi Puri, Pav Bhaji and Puri Chole and they were all delicious. As close as you can get in St Louis to tasting chaat offered on the beaches of Mumbai. The decor and dining area is very frugal and modest, but I always value food taste and service over form, so I find myself a very frequent diner at this place even though this restaurant is not very close to my home.
Are we talking about the same place?.
I really cannot recommend this place. The lunch buffet was awful. Maybe individual entrees are better, but I won't be back to find out.
There are two other Indian restaurants close by that are soooooo much better...Ruchi (about a mile west of 270 on Olive in the Dierberg's shopping center) or Flavor of India (Olive & 270, across the street from the Drury Inn). Both are extremely good.
Thee BEST Indian in St. Louis!!!. My husband and I frequent this restaurant because of their dedication to vegetarians. Each and every time we go we are blown away by the intricate spices, the divine entrees, and the personal service. As if we are part of the family, the host and chef (often the same person) treats us with the utmost respect and regard. We crave this food even moments after endulging. This is by far, the best Indian food we have ever encountered! You MUST try the authentic muligatawny soup!!! The korma is also highly recommended!
