Horrible Experience!!!
by Nnausica at Citysearch
I was new to town and went to Selah Salon because it was right around the corner from my apartment and looked like a nice place, never again!!! I got a bikini wax and it was awful! The stylist was almost 45 mins late, and then proceeded to tear my skin apart. I could barely walk for two days!! On top of that she didn't even do a good job, I had to go to a different salon about a week later to get it re-done! Never again.
Damaged! Damaged! Damaged!
by loyal12 at Citysearch
I am a black woman with very coarse curly hair (or with what is know in the african-american community as natural hair). However do to my profession and the fact that I love to change my style every once in a while I like to have my hair straightened without having to use chemicals. I made the mistake of going to Selah to get my healthy natural hair straightened for an event that I was attending the next day. Usually when natural hair is temporarily straightened it will return to being curly and coarse after a couple of washes. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AFTER I LEFT SELAH! After waiting for about an hour to see if the woman I had made my appointment with would show up this other woman said that she would only shampoo my hair in order to get me "ready" for the woman I made my appointment with. After a very rough shampoo where it felt like my head was being handled like a basketball and the shampoo suds gathered in my ears this woman proceeded to straighten my hair. Again, as she said to get me ready for my appointed stylist. 2 hours had gone by. Finally the woman who was originally suppose to take care of my hair walked in and began to vigurously straighten and cut my hair. I must admit the hair was cute after all of the chaos but the real test came when it was time for it to return to its natural state. After numerous washes (which is suppose to return my hair to its original state) all I am left with is a head full of half straight and half curly hair. I look like a mix between a chia pet and sammy davis jr. I am highly disappointed in the service that I received. the gossip at the different stations is also rampid at Selah's. I am afraid that I may have to cut most of my hair off to get rid of the damage. I left feeling tired and over charged. Never again will I step foot in Selah's Salon and Day Spa in St. Louis, MO.
- Pros: nicely decorated
- Cons: Long waiting/unprofessional/will damage healthy hair
Pretentious
by Paula227 at Citysearch
If you have the patience of a Saint or a day to waste, then this is the place to get your hair “did”.
I wonder who wrote those positive reviews; the owner? I will never recommend another naïve person to the pretentious place again. I am just blown away by the rudeness of the owner and staff (they have to go along with her or they’ll be looking for another job). At any rate, if you make an appointment with the owner (who is really good) be prepared to wait, because she may have to conduct other business, eat her lunch, go next door and visit awhile, or talk to the staff (about other staff members who didn’t show up), all before she will get to your hair. However, if you chose to leave, instead of wait for her, (after all you may have a life, and your own business to conduct) be prepared for avenge. Should you be stupid enough to believe that you might want to give her the benefit of the doubt and try her once more (like I did), you can rest assure the avenge will come at the most inopportune time. Stupid me made an appointment with the owner a week in advance; I showed up on time, only to have the owner look me dead in the eyes and say “Can’t do your hair, won’t do your hair, I gotta go; my other stylist will do your hair”. As I turned to leave, I informed her that she could have called me. Her and her staff stood there with smirks; however, then I understood it was about “payback time”. I was hurt; however, I needed to find someone to do my hair for my Aunt’s viewing and funeral the next day. Praise be to God! It all worked out and I found a wonderful stylist. I should have listened to all the ones that I had recommended to the owner of Selah in the past. They all came back and reported the same experiences as I had had; but I try to look for the good in people and I thought she could use the money. Because of her, I now know what maliciousness is, and God do not like anyone treating one of His children evilly; with that being said, I want to see how her business is holding up a year from now. All I can say is pray before you go!
- Pros: Good location
- Cons: Better have a day to waste
