Be Careful.... See older, negative reviews for the most important problem, which is the lack of managerial and interpersonal skills from the owner of the academy. The students do a fine job and yes, they need to check regularly with the instructor on the floor. If you happen to be in on a day when the instructor on the floor is the owner, don't expect to get more personality than from a food server at Dick's Last Resort (restaurant know for rudeness). Despite asking up front if corrections would be done if the color didn't turn out right and being told they would, that simply wasn't the case. Know what you want going into the place. If you're not happy with your results, they will correct them at YOUR cost. And the owner doesn't come personally to discuss any concerns or problems you have. She sends the students as messengers. WTH?
Great School. I have been going to this school for 10 years now. Each time I go to The Acadeym of Beauty I get a student that is a pleasure. They have been nice and smile when they come to get me from the front. I have beento both of their academies. I started at the NW Plaza one and when they astrted on in St. Charles I go there now since it is closer to my house. I wouldrecomend this to ayone, cheep prices, good people and always clean.
I am a two-time graduate of Academy of Beauty - Cottleville Campus. I got my training for my license and then went back for 600 hours of training for my Instructor's License. I can honestly say, I loved every minute of it.
My instructor, Ms. Gale was AWESOME! All the good stuff, I learned there. Most of the educators that teach there went through the same IT program that I did, so they know the curriculum they expect the students to know.
I learned so much more than just the mechanical aspects of providing services. They have a whole unit on becoming salon-ready, not just license-ready. Making sure that the graduates have their "soft skills" honed I think is just as important as the technical. And, they are on point for both.
I would recommend this cosmetology school to anyone who is interested in training for their cosmetology, manicuring, esthetics, or instructor's license. I'm actually considering going back a 3rd time to get my esthetics license.
A lot of the other schools in town are all flash & trash. Pivot point is a great learning program and Academy of Beauty is an awesome school!
Great Experience. Each time I go to this school to get my hair done I have walked out happy. The first time I went the student made me feel right at home by listening to what I wanted. I left so happy and got many compliments from my family and friends. I did not even know it was a school till the student told me she needed to get her instructor to tell her what she was doing. This last time I went I got a facial by Jamie and it was wonderful, fell asleep since it was so piecful in thier "SPA". I would recomend this school to anyone, it is like going to 2 people and only paying one since the prices are very comparable. Everyone was professional.
Very unsatisfied client. I have always loved going to the beauty schools to have my color done. We have just moved to the St. Charles area from Illinois and I found this beauty school very near our new home. I went in to have my haircolor done and when I walked in I had a very warm greeting from the recepionist and I thought wow this is a nice place. She seated me with a student who was very sweet and seemed very caring towards my needs. She went to get her instructor to help me match a color that I had been getting for a very long time. From the time the instructor came over though she seemed very rude and almost bothered by the student asking for help. We chose a color out of the book that seemed to be pretty close to what I had. I understood from the student that because they used a different color line from the one I had been receiving from the school I was going to in Illinois it would be very close but not exact. We all agreed that this was a good color. The student went to the back to mix up my color and it seemed to take her a while. I noticed the problem was that she had to keep hunting down her instructor who was in an office with her nose in a computer rather than out working with all of the students which seemed to bother me. The student finally came out and apologized for my wait and explained she needed some helop and had a hard time tracking down her instructor. We had great conversation and she was very attentive to all of my needs, just a wonderful girl. We then discussed my haircut which was basically just a trim of what I already had. Again this poor girl had to go and track down her teacher who again just seemed bothered that she needed help! I wish I had never gotten the haircut! I understand that they are students and that it is a learning process but this instructor needs to go back to beauty school. She was horrible at explaining to the student what to do and I have had my haircut plenty of times to know what this teacher was doing was wrong! The student trimmed my hair just as I asked and after tracking down the teacher AGAIN she came out to "check" my haircut. This woman went in and basically butchered my hair. It was horrible. And not to mention this woman just seemed completely rude. I felt she was rude to me and rude to her student. The girl finished drying my hair and when I went up to the fromt to pay I asked if the teacher had been here for a while or if she was new. To my surprise I was told that she was the school owner. I was shocked! For someone who ownes a beauty school she did not look nor act the part. She was not dressed very professionally, her hair was sort of a mess and had little to no makeup on, and she owns a "BEAUTY" school. I felt horrible for this girl. She worked so hard on my hair and did as she was told but I was very unsatisfied and can only blame her teacher. I would not recommend this beauty school because if this is the experience I received when the school owner was there I can only imagine what it would be like if she were not there. The color that I received was not close to the color that we chose in the book and it has only been about 10 days since I received the color and it has already faded to a horrible mousy brown color. I'm not sure what color line they use, the student told me however I did not recognize the name, but for someone who has been having there hair colored for over 10 years it definately should not have faded this fast, and I do use professional products to ensure that my color does not fade as fast but it looks like I didn't even have it done. As a consumer I caution you before you choose this beauty school! It is a shame because these student are paying for an education and from what I can see in just the 3 hours I was there...not a very good one!
Traumatizing. I went to the Academy of Beauty to get my hair done for prom. Everything was fine at first. The student was very personable and my hair looked really good. Then the instructor intervened. She was extremely rude and did not even acknowledge my presence until she started manhandling my neck. She was not gentle whatsoever. She also proceeded to jam bobby pins into my head. Seeing the work she did on me and her people skills, it seemed that she had only worked on mannequins, not people. She also was talking down to the student instead of working with the student and giving them tips. As a result of this experience I received bruises on my scalp from the bobby pins, a headache as well, and my neck was sore from the way the instructor handled it. Most importantly, it looked like a third grader did my hair when she got through with it. Needless to say I will not be going back there and I would discourage anyone from attending the school as a student because the instructors that they have are not the people to learn from seeing their rude, stuck-up attitudes as well as their lacking skills. This is the worst experience I have had when getting my hair done and I do believe I was more than nice in my rating as well as this review.
Upsetting Experience. I had my haircut at Academy of Beauty and let me just say... terrifying! The student had trouble, which is to be expected, but when the teacher took over, it got worse. All I wanted was a simple swing bob and left with something resembling a bowl cut. While talking with the student she mentioned how they hire teachers who just have graduated school with no real "Salon Experience". I heard one teacher cursing at a student and another teacher talking about her "sexual escapades". I couldnt believe it.
Don't go to this school. This school was like a prison. They treat you like you're lower than them. There are so many rules. You aren't treated like an adult. The rules change day to day person to person. Completely unprofessional. The number one goal for them is to make money off you. I also did.t dislike cosmetology school. I love being a stylist. I just would have gone about picking a school a little differently had I known. Also, no one is allowed to draw. EVER.
AWFUL SCHOOL.. the place was extremely uptight. I was a student there for a long time. I hated it. I didnt hate cosmetology school, I hated how rude the instructors were and how unorganized the school was. I definitely do not recommend it. They would talk to you like you were stupid.
