OverOverpriced. Atmoshere is warm and pleasent. The food and drinks are way way way overpriced but decent. I dine out 4 to 5 nights a week with my wife and friends. St Louis has many fine resturants that are reasonable with better food. Overated.
Pathetic ... just plain pathetic!. I am from Manhattan, have traveled and lived all over the world ... I have sophisticated taste ... I know value ... and rest assured Anne Gunn's has neither. I guess if one is from St Louis one would think this place expensive and it is considering the extremely low quality of the food and service. There were four of us here on business ... we tried a little of everything ... steak (amazingly tough!! worst I have ever had) ... swordfish (extremely fishy smell, obviously not very fresh) ... but what can one expect from a restaurant that specializes in POTATOES!! I do admire the owners of Gunn's as they have hit on a gold mine ... diners that know nothing about food that are willing to pay anything for it. Watching the uninformed clientele was enjoyable ... everyone trying to "out pretend" each other. What a hoot!
Legendary and for good reason. Steaks prepared to perfection and some of the freshest fish I've ever had in the midwest. The Yellow fin tuna was absolutely perfect and the fresh oysters were great. The chef doesn't cover the flavor of the meat by drenching it in sauce. Food is very expensive but well worth it. Same goes for wines by the glass, but where else can you get a glass of Opus One? Bottle prices were on par with most good restaurants and selection is great.
Favorite of the meat-and-potatoes crowd offers spuds and savory meats in agreeably up-market surroundings..
In Short
Annie's is unmistakably of the pub persuasion, but it sports a polished look, with wood floors, wood blinds and an outdoor patio settled into a flower garden. Annie's specializes in dishes that feature unique fresh steaks, courtesy of the Smokehouse Meat Market next door. In keeping with the owner's Irish heritage, the restaurant offers many different kinds of potatoes, such as whipped Yukon gold (plain, garlic or horseradish) and a roasted mushroom-potato-rosemary hash.
Hardy's beats Annies?? NOT!!.
AG's has THE best burger going! Steaks are great, and the BBQ shrimp is awesome. The crab cakes, sandwiches, potatoes...I could go on and on. And they dont water down their drinks!!
On the negative side, it is a bit crowed and noisy, and you gotta make reservations way in advance.
But over all, you cant get a better burger for the money.
Annie Gunn. It's a shame that the owners did not consider what importance people attach to noise levels. My wife and I and another couple dinned there a few months ago. We were seated in a booth and the noise level was such that meaningful conversation was near impossible. The food was very good and served in a timely manner. The pluses stopped there. We'll not return.
Both Editors and Readers Missed the Boat. OK, I know I'm talking about my beloved fellow St.Louisans and I've been here since I was born except for 7 years right after college, but guys....you're dining tastes are NOT sophisticated enough to rate hot dogs! Annie Gunn's is simply the best restaurant in the area. Ask anyone who visits St.Louis and they will tell you where they dine. It's NOT Tucker's! Thankfully AG's will not close due to you C minus semi-morons. There are enough regulars to keep it going in a very healthy way. In the mean time, those of you who voted for the likes of Tucker's or Outback or any other cheap chain-type place that was ahead of AG's on the list, try a real steak at Annie Gunn's. Spend a few bucks more. It won't break you.
inTOP3. We currantly visited the infamous "Annie's" and were not let down by any part of our experience. From the phone reservation to the thank you many times at the end....we cannot wait to return. The food was both familiar and new. Our server was very knowledgable and helped us through what we would like and what price range would allow us to enjoy the entire experience without leaving broke. I will recommend this place to everyone as one of the top 3 places in STL to dine.
Pathetic. 123 bucks for an appetizer, two steaks, two house salads, two glasses of wine and two coffees. It would have been too expensive at half the cost but then you wouldn't have been treated like they were doing you such a huge favor by allowing you to be in their presence. Go there if you want to be treated like crap, get the worse service in your life and spend three times more than what it's worth. If they know you have money, you'll be severely sucked up to. We watched it from our table. It was pathetic.
Adding Items. Food was excellent but we were surprised to realize after receiving the bill that the shrimp were $4 apiece that was ordered with our salad as an additional item.
