The Skinny – Tucker's Place planned on being a pizzeria when it coined the term "St. Louis pizza." But then other restaurants grabbed hold of the idea and started placing it on their menus. Today, pizza is still on the menu at Tucker's, but that's not the reason people horde tables for lunch and dinner. For more than 20 years, this family-owned St. Louis chain has drawn in meat-lovers from near and far. – – On the Menu – You'll get big portions in a clean, comfortable, and consistent (notice the three Cs) environment where they have no specials, no microwaves,…
terrible phone manors
by bh24
While I can't speak of the food, or the table service, the man other end of the phone was very rude and not helpful. I called to buy a bottle of wine for my parents (to be sent to their table) for thier anniversary. My first call resulted in frustration as I was told they don't take reservations for eight people, but he didn't even step away to look! My second call was two-and-a-half minutes without an answer. I called right back, and finally the same guy answered a minute later. He did fulfil my request, but was very unfriendly again, and abrupt. Basically I got hung up on!
- Pros: none
- Cons: rude, slow, not helpful
Honest steak house and honest steaks
by thelarch
I go to tuckers in west county whenever I goto St. Louis. I can get a black and tan and a good steak.
There is an "insiders" track to the place, you gotta know what to ask for.
For example, there is a 14oz ribeye that is not on menu.
I enjoy the atmosphere.
Every steak I've gotten has been at least as big as advertised. Also, the steaks aren't thin to make them look bigger.
Any place that the menu says that the cook is not responsible for steaks cooked past medium is a win for me.
It's just your good honest steak house that doesn't need to be perfect
- Pros: good steak, cheese stuffed bread stix and wings
- Cons: not everything available is on menu
Great Steaks, Poor Customer Service
by hoobickler
Great Steaks, Great Price. Didn't really hang out for drinks, or to see what the crowd was like. My only gripes: 1. The waitress kept mentioning price when I didn't want a Potato or veggies. The steaks are dirt cheap compared to what I pay at Robust or Citizen Canes. The only reason I took no offense, because I used to work in Food Services as well.....in high school about 15 years ago ;)
2. Homosexually flaming Bus Boy. Sorry but this person needs to lose their jobs, We left a 20% tip on a $60 meal even after hearing the "prices" mentioned several times. I overheard this person walk away and say "well at least they left a tip" and laugh in a really flaming gay sort of way. Sorry but I hope you lose your job over that. The last thing you want to do in St.Louis, is promote or tolerate that kind of behavior in a place of business, yet a family style restaurant my parents used to bring us when we were kids.
Great steaks though, the only reason I'm going back.
