Best Wet Ribs On Our BBQ Road Trip..
My boys and I took a BBQ road trip. Bottom line for us was Charlotte's Rib had the best wet ribs on our trip. The ribs, brisket, and even the chicken were full of smokey flavor. The pulled pork was great! We bought 2 bottles of their Mild Hickory Barbeque Sauce - by far the best bbq sauce we have ever tasted.
We are from Michigan. We read about Charlottes Rib in a couple of books. We planned to stop there for lunch on our way to KC. It was described as a run down building in a bad part of town that had great BBQ sandwiches, so we were not expecting much. We were VERY surprised. They were actually located in a wealthy part of town similar to Grosse Pointe and Birmingham.
We arrived there after the lunch rush - around 2:00 Pm. We told the waitress about our trip asked for her recommendation. She was very friendly and suggested a combo plate with ribs, brisket, chicken, and a side of onion rings. She told the owner about us and he came out to speak with us - very nice guy. The ribs were awesome, the brisket was great, the chicken had a smokey flavor! The owner also threw in some pulled pork so that we could try that as well. He told us that he had not offered pulled pork in the past but so many customers were asking for it that he added it to the menu. Best pulled pork we had on the trip! The waitress suggested a mixture of Ranch Dressing and their Mild Hickory Barbeque Sauce to go with the Onion rings - WOW! It was good!
The owner suggested that we try the Smokestack BBQ in KC. If you are ever in KC go there. The ribs are HUGE - almost a foot long, thick with meat, and were 2nd best on the trip! Their baked beans were the best on the trip! Don't bother with Gates and Bryants - thier BBQ was the worst on the trip and we felt like cattle in a slaughterhouse.
BBQ Trip Summary:
Best Wet ribs: Charlotte's Rib, Smokestack (KC), Big Bob Gibson (Decatur AL), Robinsons #1 (Chicago)
Best Dry ribs: Charles Vergo's Rendezvous (Memphis)
Best Pulled Pork and BBQ Around. I just recently visited charlottes rib and i loved the pulled pork. It was tender and delicious and had lots of flavor. Not only was it delecious they just took grand champion at a recent bbq competition as well as earned a high score specifically on the pulled pork. I guess everyone can not be pleased.
Great baby backs. I've had take-out twice from Charlotte's Rib and the food has been great both times. The meat falls off the baby backs. I can't wait for more...
Charlotte's Rib Barbeque. The service and atmosphere was good and the waitress was friendly and helpful. The barbeque, baked beans and coleslaw were less than average. The pulled pork tasted and appeared to have been oven roasted and then soaked in barbeque sauce, having very little flavor. All in all our visit was disappointing.
One Mans opinion. Charlottes Rib has such good bar be que that everyone else is fighting for second place. The service is beyond outstanding. There is NOT a bad item on the menu. The value for the dollar is like no other restaraunt anywhere. Be sure at some point that you go in on a Thursday to check out their burnt ends. They are to die for.Overall I highly recomemd you try this place out ASAP.
Best BBQ in St. Louis!!!. My favorite place to go for BBQ by far is Charlottes Rib. I have always had excellent service and great food. There are several sauces to chose from and the price is right.
BEST BBQ in St Louis. The location and seating is not as good as the old location on Manchester Road, but the food quality is still the best in St Louis. The sauce is tangy and not spicy harsh like the other places. If it's spicy you desire, they can help you out with that to. Slow cooked and tasyty ribs without the excess sauce, you can actually taste the meat. Reserve the sauce for the tasty steak fries.
