Editorial Review for Missouri Bar & Grill – by Thomas Crone

The Scene
There was a time when this was the premier newspaperman's watering hole in St. Louis. Sure, folks from the Post-Dispatch are still known to amble down Tucker Boulevard for a quick nip. But it's not like the times when reporters all drank like fish and the Globe-Democrat was right across the street.

The Draw
Today, the "Mo Bar" isn't just a place for ink-stained newsfolks; National League umpires are known to come here too. But they're only in town 81 days a year, leaving the late-night bar a last stop for locals before heading home. Lunch is served, but it's the late last call that appeals to night owls looking for one last round. The jukebox, dark corners and often-hushed conversations make the place feel like that "just right" last stop.

This place is great dive! The food is super cheap ($2.50- $10.00) and very yummy, although it is just the usual bar menu selection, sandwiches, appetizers, salads, etc. They have gyros, though which is a nice touch! The kitchen is open every night, 365 days a year until 2:30am. They have a full, and I mean full, bar and have several beers on tap including the St. Louis old standyby, Schlafly. Although it may look a little intimidating from the outside and the initial entryway, don't back out! This is a great place to hang, watch sports or just grab a quick bite. The food service is quick and friendly and the place is deco'd in old sports pictures and such. The Washington Avenue clubs are about 500 feet from here. Park in an attended lot and grab a bite to eat before (or after) the club scene.

Pros: Cheap, cheap, cheap!, Close to clubs, Good food

Cons: Yes, a dive., Interesting clientel.

A perfect last stop where you're just as likely to run into a salty newspaperman as a National League ump.  See the full editorial review.
