On June 9th, we went to Morgan St looking to celebrate the return of a very good friend who has been stationed in Iraq since September 2005. His mid-tour leave brought him home to St. Louis for only 2 weeks, and Morgan St was one of the places he wanted to go and celebrate with friends who came to see him from all over the country. Because of the fact that we were a large group of mostly guys, there were only about 6 of us girls in a group of 30, we were denied entrance into the bar. We explained the situation, hoping that the bouncer would make an exception and work something out with us since we were there to honor a man who has selflessy served his country for the past 9 months, but we were told to leave- actually, to get away. Not only were we told to get away, but the bouncer involved the police. Management really should think about the type of message they're sending by having their staff behave like that, especially given the circumstances. We're not talking about a group of college kids coming in to celebrate a 21st birthday. We were a group of 30 young professionals looking to celebrate a friend and soldier who has done more in the past 9 months for his country than most will ever do in a lifetime. I have never witnessed such disrespect in my life and am ashamed to admit that I spent time and money at Morgan Street in the past. I will NEVER go back, nor will the other 29 people there to witness what happened that night.
