Warm, friendly restaurant offers a rotating menu of eclectic international fare, and sweet, delicious beignets.. The Scene
Tucked away in an old building on a corner in Benton Park, the restaurant has a lovely dining space, with glossy maple floors and warm brick walls illuminated by flickering candles. It's vexing to have to read the evening's selections from a chalkboard, but the seamless service will make the rest of the evening delightful.

The Food
Diners are served baskets of steaming-hot, impossibly soft beignets. These sweet yeast buns, usually dusted with confectioners' sugar, are popular below the Mason-Dixon Line, but Sidney Street's beignets are like exquisite dinner rolls, served with nothing but butter. The menu on any given night may include Southwestern-style dishes, such as Santa Fe shrimp and Pueblo ravioli, or Asian-inspired entrees like Szechuan tuna. Desserts, like the dinner menu, vary nightly but are always thoughtfully conceived and--more important--as delicious as the beignets.

Best in St. Louis. This is my favorite restaurant in St. Louis. The service is excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere romantic. I been going to Sidney Street for well over 12 years and have had a great experience every time.

very interesting. I saw notta. The wife and my favorite place for special occasion. The atmosphere and ambience are incredible. You see all types of people from all walks of life. Folks in tuxedos to cutoffs (not necessarily recommended) as it's a nice place to eat. Pricey but by comparison not bad for what you get. Very interesting menu with everchanging items but they will bring back the favs if you ask.

Romance in the Air. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary, as we do every year, at Sidney Street Cafe. There is not a more romantic place to dine in this city. The setting and ambiance are beautiful and inviting--cozy tables, dark and candle-lit, with hardwood floors and brick walls. The food is more amazing, every time you visit. The chalkboard menu is intriguing and the waitstaff is as professional and accomodating as they come. What a wonderful, inviting, comfortable, sensual place to be romantic. We visit the cozy bar for an after dinner cocktail and some dessert--anticipating what will come later!! Absoultely, perfectly romantic!

Perfect Dinner. As a St. Louis native and resident of Benton Park (I live a block away from Sidney Street) I can assure you Sidney Street ranks at the top of St. Louis restaurants. The top. I've been there probably 50 times and have never had a bad experience. As a matter of fact, every experience has been flawless. Because the establishment treats their wait staff almost like family, the service is impeccable and friendly.

Isn't it romantic?. Immediately upon entering Sidney Street Cafe, you are transformed back to a time where restaurants were for lovers. The ambiance, atmosphere, staff and food are sensually enticing to the mind, body and soul. The staff is fabulous in their knowledge (without notes) of the menu, and the descriptions of the choices tantalize the tongue through the mind. The setting is dark and romantic; the air electrified with promises of "what comes later." This is a great date place.

great food but NOT romantic. For the past number of years I have went to the Melting Pot for mine and my husband's anniversary but this year decided to switch it up a bit. We were swayed by city search's 2001 restaurant poll. Sidney Street got #1 for most romantic while Melting Pot got #2. We had to see who could beat out the Melting Pot's romantic atmosphere. We were not impressed. Do not let me mislead you the food and service were phenomenal but we were sat in the middle of a crowed, noisy, completely open room. The only bit of romance that I noticed was the candle on the table. The server had to raise her voice just so we could hear her as did me and my husband. We will go back but just for dinner not for any romantic occasions.
