The burger and onion rings were good, but the staff was very unprofessional.. IF and I do mean IF we decide to have lunch there again, we will not be sitting anywhere close to the counter, as the staff speaks of personal things and uses vulgar words, so much that we were uncomfortable and it ruined our first experience there.
Love Fatted Calf. Let me just say I love Fatted Calf and have been enjoying it for about 15 years since I started working in Clayton. The burgers are awesome and love their chicken salad too! But I am disappointed because they have changed a few things on their menus. They used to have awesome fried mushrooms. Now whatever they are just not as appealing. Frequently when you get them you'll receive 10 or so and quite a few are missing the entire mushroom and you just get crust. Totally not a fan of the new crust on them either. They also changed the way their parmesan house vingarette is made. I used to get extra just to take home. Now it resembles something close to green puree. The flavor and texture just arent the same. I really miss it!! I would recommend eating their to anyone but I love the way they used to be even more.
Burgers are good but Chicken sandwich is Wonderful!!.
I love eating at the Fatted Calf. I usually order their Chicken Sandwich. It comes with lettuce, tomato, a small packet of mayo and that soft cheddar cheese. It's wonderful. It's a fairly big sandwich and I usually eat it all. It's so very jucy that I usually have juice dripping down my hand. It's the best chicken sandwich that I've ever had.
Their burgers are okay, BUT -I am not a burger person. Just saying that I've eaten one is saying a whole lot. My husband LOVES their burgers.
Also, they have secret menu items. Their fried mushrooms are yummy!!
Friendly, comfortable, great calfburgers. Nestled in the heart of Clayton, a casual place to grab a great meal. Eventhough it is counter service, it is friendly and accomodating to the needs of their customers.
Best burger on the planet!. 2006 marks the Fatted Calf's 40th anniversary in the same building on Bemiston Ave., never once even so much as remodeled to the best of my knowledge, although in the beginning they had only the tall tables with little pots of ketchup mixed with relish on them. There were at one time Fatted Calf restaurants in Boston and Chicago (I know, because I lived in those places and ate at them) and perhaps elsewhere. Now the original one in St. Louis is the only one left, as far as I know. There is precious little left in St. Louis that I remember from that far back and what remains is mostly greatly changed. The Fatted Calf is a treasure to be cherished! I've never found a burger I liked better and I've lived all over the country.
Best Burger in St Louis. The calf burgers are the best!!! They'll cook them any way you want. The cheddar burger is great!!!
Beats Hardees every time. You can order a burger cooked the way you want it and get it that way every time. Try getting your burger with cheddar or swiss or blue cheese at the other burger places. The fries and hamburger meat are much higher quality.
Try This Delicious Hideaway!. Just imagine going to a favorite, quiet hideaway club and finding... made to order hot, delicious burgers like no other burger you have ever eaten. Imagine the atmosphere filled with recently grilled burgers topped with viaious choices of high quality cheeses and other incredible additions. All of this and the prices are very reasonable to boot. The ambiance is that of an English Pub as the aroma is wonderful and very flavorful. You won't go wrong coming here. Enjoy!
LOVE THE CHEESE!. My favorite thing about the Fatted Calf's burgers is the "soft" cheddar cheese. There are only two other places in St. Louis that offer that type cheese - Tuckers and Dooleys. Try the Fatted Calf burgers, you'll like them.
Fast burgers don't get much better. I first ate at a Fatted Calf (as a child) in the late 1960s when they were downtown. My father worked downtown, and it was a real "businessman's hangout." Your only choice was wat kind of cheese you wanted on your burger. My memories were of one of the best burgers I had ever eaten. Why this never became a national franchise, I don't know. But it should have been!
