My husband and I love Cardwell's and eat there often for both lunch and dinner. I really couldn't disagree more with the writer who stated portions were amall and overpriced. We eat out often and visit many restaurants in the area and it is probably our favorite. It is the type of place you can go to for a significant occasion or a a casual meal as they have a fomal dining room, a bistro area, and a bar with table service. We also feel the staff is generally quite good. They shoud probably spiff up some of the restaurant , especially the bar , where the furniture legs are worn and a bit scuffy, but Cardwell's is an attractive and comfortable resataurant with a great patio.

I think the other 2 people that gave Cardwells a bad name just had a one time " bad expierence". Even though that is enough to drive someone away... Cardwells has great food and a great staff! I think that it is the best place in Clayton to sit on the patio and dine or just have a few cocktails. The bartenders are very prompt with their service, and love to give it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With daily specials to featured wines Cardwells has the ambiance that alot of other places do not have.

Living in Clayton gives us many choices in dining. A visit to Cardwell's tonight (7-27-06)has to be among the worst experiences in Clayton. The waiter was uninformed as to the content or the price of any of the specials. When questioned on the price of the Halibut special, he remarked "I dunno, twenty-thirty bucks, somthin' like that. (27.95)(It was good) He informed us the cold trio of summer soups was "about twelve to fourteen bucks". Okay pricey but sounds good, right? It was, literaly, three chilled shots glasses of soup. (It was 6.95, still too much for three shots of soup). The mussel shells were one third empty and missing ones were not in the broth. The waiter then made a remark when I asked the price of the desert special. No one had aked him the price of anything in the nine months he had worked there, he remarked. I did not realize I was so lucky to be eating there. How foolish of me. I informed the manager but he said the waiter was one of his best. The place was nearly empty and I see why. Never again.
