The Scene – Over the years, as one of only a couple of Indian restaurants in St. Louis, India's Rasoi has built up a loyal patronage with its convenient location and reliable food. But now that a few more Indian restaurants have debuted in the area, this Clayton eatery has some competition and needs to do a bit more to distinguish itself from the others. What you won't find here is the complimentary pappadam (lentil flatbread) that most other Indian restaurants serve. The dining room is pretty, serene and comfortable and the service accommodating. – – The Food –…
Wrong Choice

I've been to this restuarant a few times before and was surprised by how horrible my experience was this last time I went for a friend's birthday. The place was so dark I could barely see the menu and there was a cold draft. Luckily, I arrived knowing what I wanted. Our food arrived quickly, but tasted bland and watery. There was absolutely no taste...no spicy flavor...nothing. On the flip side, the waiters were incredibly attentive to me and my friend. Our water glasses were filled 6 times (even if we just took a sip out of the glass) throughout the course of the night. What a waste of time and money. India Palace, House of India, and even Maharaja would have been a better choice.
- Pros: No waiting
- Cons: Bland Food, Dark Lighting, No heat
Tasteless Service

I went and got myself a hearty helping of at least one dish. At the end of the meal I received a lecture from Server 01 and told I was wasting food. Amazingly enough this same guy was aghast that I hadn't left a tip. I informed him I could do without the lecture and eat somewhere else. He said good don't come here again. No problem there are simply to many good indian restaraunts around with a buffet to worry about him.
- Pros: Big buffet, Selection
- Cons: No parking, Bad Service, Crowded
Satsifying Indian food!

I used the term food, not cuisine. This is cut and dry Indian. As an American, I found the service friendly and the food moderate in heat (I do not have an extreme like or dislike for spicey food - I enjoy it as long as it doesn't detract from the taste). The veggie sampler was very well presented and had a bit of everything (though I could have passed on creamed spinach - bland bland bland). It was enough food that could have easily been shared between two with the addition of an appetizer. I will return when I am in the mood for Indian again.
