Editorial Review for Il Vicino – by Melissa Martin

In Short
Authentic wood-oven pizza, minus the silly toppings, is the specialty here. Place your order at the register; servers bring your food when it's ready. Il Vicino's colorful, mosaic-tiled pizza oven is the focal point of the dining room. Try the Campagnola pizza, with sausage, wild mushrooms, goat cheese, mozzarella and fresh oregano. Another tasty choice is the pizza rustica, with artichoke hearts, olives, capers, mozzarella, oregano and roasted garlic.

The best part of Il Vicino is that everyone gets their own 9-inch pizza so you aren't debating on what toppings your group wants. I've dined at Il vicino probably 10 times and have yet to have a poor experience. The salads are great too as is the iced tea, which has a fruity flavor.

Pros: quick service, excellent pizza, great location

Cons: parking

Their pizza was much better then expected. I watched the pizzas come out of the oven and I thought oh no because they were so thin and they looked like they lacked toppings. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The Bianca pizza was actually very flavorful. They put some kind of spicy oil on the pizza which adds a lot of flavor. Even though the pizza was thin it was about 12 inches around which made it plentiful. Also, you get goat cheese and other toppings that you would not normally get at a chain restaurant. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the service was excellent. The order process was a bit unusual. You pay first then you get a flag with your order number on and then you sit down and someone serves you. I didnt mine this, but you are also expected to tip at this time.

Pros: good pizza, service

Cons: parking, pay and tip first, small restaurant
