Editorial Review for Borders (nee Library Ltd.) – by Anne T. Makeever
Bestsellers and Belles Lettres
Yes, it's a chain, but the poetry section is thorough, thoughtful and satisfying. So too the lit-crit section. Looking for art books? They're here. Cookbooks? Of course. Are you a magazine freak or looking for the latest literary journal? Don't miss the well-stocked periodical shelves.
Gilding the Lily?
You can also browse through rows of CDs, videos, books on tape. Buy a gift, then the wrapping paper, ribbon and card to go with it. Toddle over to the cafe with your stack of books and linger over latte and scones or chicken salad and tea. If you can't find what you're looking for, stop at the information desk and order it.

Regarding The Library LTD. Bookstore. Awesome place. i worked there in the early 90's, and miss it to this day. Sad that it got taken over by Borders. If any former employees, managers, etc...read this, please respond and we'll catch up on old times. I recall Carol, St. Anthony Hicks, Mary, Leland Wolff, Tony ( the highly intense guy who got fired), and of course Allan and Terry. D Mason

Having worked at the Library, Ltd. and the Borders in Brentwood (among others) I have to take issue with the scathing review posted above. Yes, the LL was a bookselling bastion in St. Louis. However, Borders did not come in and "take over" as many people mistakenly believe. The original owners decided to retire, and, instead of simply closing, looked for someone else to carry on. Please ask yourself if you would really have rather had that the store closed. I can speak from experience that many of the same managers and booksellers who were at the LL are still with the store in Brentwood; others have moved to area Borders stores to continue their bookselling careers. In many tangible ways, including the number and variety of books carried and sold, the Borders in Brentwood is a much better BOOKstore than the Library, Ltd. ever was. After 10 years+ it is well past the tiime for St Louisans with sentimental memories to keep the breast beating goin.
