The Bar to Patron. Hello. If you visit this bar ask about Maxx with 2 X's. That's me. I am a long time patron of this bar and it is a great place in my opinion to patron. They have great burgers even better grilled rib eye and the variety (though not large) is nice. You can get from Fried Cauliflower with cheese bits in it to fried mushrooms and pizza and even friend chicken salad. They have decent if not kind of large portions for every thing but chicken strips. The strips nice size but kinda on the pricey side but every thing else in my opinion is a good buy. If there were ever, Ever, EVER, a bar to compare to cheers... this would be it. Once they know your name you are known. That's it You are known and they treat you like family. During the day you can even take your kids there and let them play on the pinball machine. Great place to go to just socialize. I love it and I know if you give it a good try you will too.

Last is I am not sure when the guy had the problem with the "Owner" But I know the owner Hank who has had the bar for like 50 years and Chris is or was just a manager. Hank owns the bar and hank is a good ol American guy. Did I mention they play sports all day every day on the flat screens and the big screen over head and the little old school t.c over the front door. Any game you want to see just tell them and they will put it on if no one is watching the t.v.'s already. I mean they will put on almost anything. On a slow day I can sometimes get them to put it onb like Cartoon Network and the CW. Yeah a good place to go for sure. 2 gazillion thumbs up from this guy^^^^^^^^

old school. J&A's is a great little hole in the wall on the west end. People are friendly, the staff is professional and the drinks are cheap.

Also they have some of the best food ever!! It is like St. Louis's Cheers! Justin the bar tender is one of the best and knows his sports and drinks, Carl is one of the best to on the food. Egregious cheapskate attitude. When I entered this tavern to have lunch, the jukebox was in need of repair. A repairman arrived while I was there, and serviced the jukebox. As he left, he announced that he had left some credits on it. I asked the man behind the bar if I could play it, and he said "yes, but leave some for me." I walked up to the jukebox, and found 15 credits on it. I played five of them, and at this point, the manager, one "Chris", who had been out of the room for a while, asked me if I had put money into the jukebox. I said No, but the repairman had left some, and the barman said I could play it. He said, "Those were my credits; I paid for them." I asked him how much a credit cost--he said a dollar. I handed him a five, told the man at the bar that I had just experienced the all-time cheapest action on the part of a manager of my whole life, and walked out. Frankly, I don't believe "Chris" paid for those credits. I have been around bars enough to know that jukebox repairmen routinely leave free credits when they leave.

J&A's. J&A's doesn't look like much from the outside, in fact, you could easily drive by without noticing it.

I'm so glad that I stumbled into this "hole in the wall".

I would argue that they have the best burger in St Louis (and for under $5) the best value for a burger in St Louis. They also serve great chicken wings and pizza.

This family owned business - serves not only great food - but great service. This may be the closest thing to "Cheers" in St Louis. They'll know your name pretty quick and make you feel right at home.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up. Give it a try - you'll become addicted!
