Like eating with family (if you have family in Milan).
This is one of our favorite restaurants and we dine out 2 to 3 times a week. Over the last 7 years we have shared meals with Larry Fuse and his staff at least 150 times. In that time period most of the servers (Rayetta, Elane, Taylor etc) have remained and they picked up one of the best mixologist in town (Jonie).
Every time we go to Lorenzo's we vary what we do. Sometimes we sit at the bar and Jonie pours us some of the best drinks that you can get in St. Louis. I love a good Old Fashioned and she makes one that is spot on. Other times we dine in the regular dining room and watch as hundreds of people flood in to celebrate special occasions or just have a wonderful dining experience. On occasion we secure the kitchen table or the backroom for a more intimate evening.
How is the food? So great you feel like you are in Northern Italy. I usually order the calves liver (it comes with polenta and a delicious sauce) . In terms of what we suggest for others, try the following: Arancini (you will feel like you are in the streets of Palermo with this starter), house made potato gnocchi (pronounced "know-keee" and is so tender and comforting), or the chicken spedini.
If you want a great meal and super service, make a reservation at Lorenzo's today.
Ups and Downs.
The best salad in town until....
I've been going to this restaurant since they opened and the menu hasn't changed much. The service is usually attentive (until today).
We've had lunch only, never dinner. The last time we went, we waited a good long while for pizza but it came out half-cooked so the 'manager' said next time we come in to ask for himl. We did and he he didn't even look our way. Perhaps the waitress didn't tell him but it's strange that for the first time I had an unshelled pistachio nut in my salad which nearly broke my tooth. The manager nor the owner never came by to ask us how our meal was and the place was not crowded. We were one of the first tables there...were they put off because we complained the first time about the pizza and had sent it back??? The food is okay but there are other places on the Hill.
VEGETARIANS BEWARE!!!. I am ashamed to have trusted this restaurant for so long. After taking my mother to dinner tonight, feel terrible that her birthday was celebrated at a place that charges so much for such a SMALL piece of fish. $20.95 for what was probably 3 ounces! We also seemed to encounter the only wait staff that actually knows what is IN the food. She informed us that the spinach gnocci is made with chicken stock, which is what we have ordered for years. Regardless of our consistent requests for vegetarian options and even in seeking advice from the staff, we were told that the spinach gnocci was vegetarian-friendly. Do not take your vegetarian friends or family, as they have no policies informing their staff of the food ingredients. Not only is this a lack of respect, but it's LOW CLASS!
My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's day. We expected a short wait, but ended up waiting for 2+ hours for a table (along with everyone else who had a reservation!). By the time we were seated, we were not that hungry.
No apology from server or manager at any point. Poor hostesses were nice, but not prepared for such a mess! Bartender was nice enough, but overwhelmed as well.
Food was just OK, not worth the wait or price. Obviously, this is only one night out of the year, but it wasn't that great, even if we had been seated at a normal time.
Great atmosphere, less than great entrees!.
Lovely Restaurant, great ambiance, but the main courses my wife and I had were both less than what we would have expected. The red snapper was overdone to the point it was hard to cut without a knife, and the risotto tasted like it had been overcooked by an hour!
Despite these disappointments, it is still a wonderful venue to visit. Service was prompt and friendly, and appetizers and salads were good. My wife had a Brandy Alexander that was the best I've ever tasted!
Except for the chef (cook??), this would have been a memorable evening
Excellent Food, Service and Cocktails!. Third visit to Lorenzos! Each dinner has been over the top! Food is well worth the price! Exceptional taste, great service and fantastic desserts. Great Cocktails! Best kept secret on the Hill! Try it - you won't be disappointed. We will continue to return..over and over again!
very good. They add an interesting twist to traditional Italian cuisine. The food is excellent, service is great, drinks are generous. The restaraunt itself has a very nice floorplan and is decorated tastefully. Great place for a date.
Best Italian Food. I have been to a lot of Italian Restaurants in St. Louis and this one is one of the best! I enjoyed everything I have tried. The spaghetti is wonderful, their fish dishes are wonderfully prepared. If you are looking for and great Italian place, this is it.
Good food!. Lorenzo's service was really great and I loved the food. It's a beautiful space and everyone was very friendly. One of the best all around Italian spots on the Hill.
Dining on the Hill means more than dressing up for dull food..
The 100-year-old building's clean beige stucco walls and sparkling leaded glass door give the fledgling restaurant a fresh, tidy facade. The cozy dining area has a Tuscan look, with dappled gold paint, craggy terra cotta wall sconces and a swirled-glass center fixture that casts a pleasant glow in the room.
Pizza, gnocchi and risotto dishes outnumber stock standbys like stuffed or braised veal. Contemporary ingredients and preparations augment most items--the house salad with with toasted pistachios and crisp bits of prosciutto, or Chicken Marsala with earthy oven-dried tomatoes and Parmesan mashed potatoes, for example. Seafood dishes, such as red snapper with grilled polenta and sauteed spinach, or shrimp ravioli, should not be missed.
