Avoid! One star is generous. I promise you will regret every minute you invest in traveling to this place. You will be met at the door by a pudgy, insecure ogre; then walk into a disgustingly kept bar with sup-par food. Did I mention the outrageous weekday cover charge? AVOID AT ALL COST! You would be better off to picking up a six-pack of beer and ordering some pizza. If you don't heed this warning I hope you have better luck than me. Best wishes.
lying thief female bartender. I've been to Nick's Pub many times and have always had a good time, especially with their Thursday night special. However, the last time I was there, when I got my tab back, the female bartender had added multiple drinks to it. When I told her that I had not ordered them, she told me that I yes I had. We were only there for an hour so I repeated to her exactly what the couple of drinks were that I had ordered for myself and friends. She told me that if I did not sign the receipt then she would throw me out. I still refused, thus she called a bouncer over and said that I was causing problems, so he escorted me out. I would really hope that the owner of Nick's pub reads these reviews and realizes that his lying thief bartender is going to give his bar a bad name.
I had been there twice before a couple of years ago and was not really impressed. I ended up back there again this May with some friends. I was the DD so I can accurately remember what happened.
First off, the big guy checking IDs at the front was an ass for no reason than to just be an ass. Second, I'm really not a fan of the atmosphere there. It's basically just a bunch of kids smoking and playing pool like they are in their parents basement. Third, the bartender Dorothy, as longbeach 1983 indicated, is a thief. I was with my one friend the entire time as he went up and ordered 3 drinks and 3 shots. He opened a tab and then we went up again and he got 1 drink. When he closed out his tab, there were 2 more drinks on there. This guy is a professional bar drinker and knows what he has had to drink. He asked me what he had gotten and I told him. It was what he thought and when he showed me the bill, I knew it was wrong. Dorothy had padded his tab. When approached about it, she denied it and said that is what he got. My buddy paid it just to get out of the place. I was just hopeful she really made a mistake, but after hearing someone else had the same problem, I know it was no mistake. My friend might have been drunk Dorothy, but I was not and we both know what you did. I have no doubt management is encouraging their employees to do this on customers that have had a few.
Great Bar Bad Employees.
I have been going to this bar for the better part of 3 years now. I have always enjoyed myself there because i like the building itself and i really liked their prices. The only issue that has now spilled over that i cannot take anymore is the employees. The guy who works the door is unbelievably rude. He took 10 minutes to check my non driver Missouri I.D. only to toss it at me saying "this better be real chief." the funny part is that once i got in the bar, the guy that was ahead of me in line during that debacle told me he just paid that same door guy 30 to get in because he was only 20 years old! Well done chief!
Pair that with bartenders who "accidentally" put someone elses drinks on your tab while getting your order completely wrong and it just makes for a horrible evening.
Watch your receipt. I used to come to this Pub 3 times a month. It was a great bar. I left St. Louis for 4 years and recently came back. I decided to go back to Nick's, big mistake. The crowd was a bit different than I remember. The real issue was the thief bartender Dorothy. I noticed there were drinks on my tab that I did not order. When I called my bank to dispute the charges I was informed that Nick's Pub rang up $50 in separate charges on top of what I owed. I am now waiting for my bank to fix this. Be careful if you go to this bar. The bartenders are thieves.
Care more about money than their patrons.
While Nicks used to be one of my favorite pubs, since the smoking ban has gone into effect, they have shown that they only seem to care about the almighty dollar rather than the health of their customers.
This was a favorite place of mine to bring the kids and watch a game because they had an arcade where the kids could play some games, giving them something to do during game time.
Alas, they have decided to placate the 23% of people who smoke, thereby locking out kids, and for that matter anyone who doesn't smoke, for a four year money grab. In 2015 all exemptions will be gone.
So think about how shallow the owners are to get their hands on smokers money while alienating families and individuals who don't smoke (the majority of the population) That alone should tell you about their character and solidify the choice not to reward them with your hard earned dollars. The city is packed full of bars who are complying and not paying off alderman to get an exemption (If you really believe Nick's is under 2,000 SF, than I have a bridge to sell you). Please go to those establishments.
Great place to go!!. I love this place! Its not only a great place to go and have a good time, u can have family time too! There food is awesome!! The service is the best in town! Top of the line!!! The owner is great too :) ....If u havent been in yet, go now and see what i mean!
My favorite bar in St Louis. I love this bar. Hands down, best place to go for one of their 20+ beers on tap, or the only-in-st-louis provel sticks. And where else are you going to find a bar that airs hockey, soccer, and gaelic rules football all at the same time? And the bartenders are extremely personable and fun, without being over the top. They make everyone feel like a "regular" even if it's their first time there.
MMMMMMM Nick's Pub.
Do you like eating sticks of deep fried provel cheese while drinking cheap cold beer and listening to a guy in a soccer jersey play Social Distortion and Oasis on a guitar?
Do you like awesome wings, shuffleboard and sports on TV you didn't even know existed because they only play them in other countries?
Do you? Huh? If your answer is yes, you'll like Nick's Pub. If your answer is no, then you're obviously too hung up on other emotional or physical insecurities to relax and have fun, so it's best that you stay far away from Nick's pub.
bad place if your latino. The place looked lively and me and my girlfriend wanted to go in. When we got to the door the bouncer gave us a undermining look and when we gave him our driver's license (the driver's license are from Puerto Rico which is american territory) he said in a rude tone that it was not a valid ID and that we needed a passport and another identifying document. I explained to him that Puerto Rico is a commonwealth with the US and he simply and he simply nodded, he repeated that we would need a passport and documents and gave his back to us. This has actually been the only place in my four months of stay at St. Louis that hasn't accepted the Puerto Rico driver's license as a valid ID and it bothered me a lot that the bouncer didn't even check with the manager.
