Not good for NY style pizza. We only tried their NY style pizza- they advertise 4 kinds of pizza (Chicago, St. Louis, NY, and maybe Sicilian?) and the place was full of happy looking people. It was $26 for a large pie with 3 toppings and 2 sodas, which seemed kind of pricey, and totally mediocre. Their other pizzas could be good.
Still the One . . .. Talayna's and I go back to the early 70s, when it was still a hole in the wall at the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway, even before the arrival of all the stained glass. I no longer live in St. Louis but love the city and visit whenever possible, with a meal at Talayna's an indispensable part of every visit. The "new" location "on the park" lacks some of the kitschy over-the-topness of the old spot but hey, you come for the the food and that, fortunately, hasn't changed. The NY style pizza was, and still is, the best I've ever had. Don't miss the cheese garlic bread and the "Combination Salad."
No chains. I grew up on Talayna's pizza, and my friends and I still crave those built in flavors that make most chain pizza taste like canned sauce on cardboard.
