Good Social Scene. Hacienda has a huge patio and is a great place to go for drinks in nice weather. I've never been impressed by their food, service, or prices. All of their success lies in thier location and large patio. If you're looking for great Mexican food, look elsewhere.
Great food. The food was really good and service was adequate. It was a Friday afternoon, so there were probably more people there for Happy Hour making it busier...
Not STL's best. The food here is okay -there are a couple of very good dishes, but most are pretty unremarkable. Unfortunately, the service needs improvement. It's not so much that it's bad (although some days it is) - it mostly seems apathetic. They just don't seem to care if you come back or not.
Definitely not a 10....
I'm originally from California where I'm used to cheap but tasty Mexican food. I was anxious to try Hacienda after glowing recommendations and after having ate there I can say that I was very disappointed with the food.
I had a 3 combo - chicken hard taco (chicken was soggy), pork tamale (better than average) and beef enchilada (red sauce was overpowering) with everything being on the salty side. Instead of fresh salsa it had the consistency of red tomato sauce.
The margaritas are good except that it's pretty sad to have them served in plastic 'dixie' cups when you sit outside on their beautiful dining patio.
I would recommend only going for the drinks & apps otherwise the entrees were disappointing.
Wish I was there!. We moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1992 and have never found a Mexican restaurant that even comes close to the Hacienda. Loved the food, atmosphere and, of course, the Margaritas.
I Make Better Mexican!. After years of living in Missouri after relocating from California and hearing how wonderful Hacienda was... we finally made it in one day for lunch. Disappointed is an understatement! After having excellent Mexican food available in every city I had ever been to in CA... I have concluded that if Hacienda is "the best" and the most "authentic" ...it just isn't possible to get Authentic, GOOD Mexican food in MO. Even the Mexicans that work in the Mexican restaurant will tell you that the food they serve here has to be "Americanized" because people here don't like "authentic" Mexican. What a shame!!!
Great Place. The food is consistantly great and the staff is always friendly. By far the best margarita in St. Louis. Outdoor patio is fantastic in season.
Bad food!. I think, while a fun place to go with a group, Hacienda has terrible food! For MUCh better, cheaper Mexican food, go to Nachomama's right across the street!
The Best? No Way!!!!. Yuk. Awful fake Mexican with awful decor and disgusting ambience.
Waste of money. If you want good Mexican food, please dont waste your money here. The burrito I had at Del Taco the night before was MUCH better. The meat here was overcooked and underseasoned. The vegetables were obviously frozen and probably generic. It tasted just like one of my frozen Budget Gormet dinners, only there was a bigger quantity. Even the margarita was watery! And not even any ethnic music- just bad 70's music and the Simpsons on the TV. I imagine anyone who rated this place higher than a 5 is a big fan of the McValue meal. Probably dont get out much.
