Editorial Review for Tower Grove Park – by Tricia Musel and Anne T. Makeever
What You'll Find
Once a sedate Victorian walking park, many of its historical landmarks are still standing today, including restored gazebos and statuary. The restored greenhouse, now the Piper Palm House, is lush with greenery and light. (On Sundays, brunch is served by Cafe Madeleine; call (314) 575-5658) The park has a carriage for rental; call (314)771-2679. Due in part to the park's historical preservation, and in part to its ambience, this is less of a recreational park--not many rollerbladers or bikers are to be found--and more a walker's park.
The Neighborhood
Just driving to Tower Grove Park, you'll notice what makes a 100-year-old neighborhood beautiful: great architecture. The Tower Grove area is another example of St. Louis' architectural diversity where Victorian row houses (from the turn of the century) closely line the street and face the park.
