Vareity at its best. This place is the cat's pajamas. First off, the staff: Lisa, Brain, Jason, Bonnie, Phil, Dave, Becky, Rob, James & Sandy are great.

Secondly, where else can you see punk, rockabilly, 80's music, DJs, straight up rock, funk, and even a live comedy show every week? Nowhere else that I can think of. Its a dive, yes.... but its the best dive in town.

Get on up--or get down--in Dogtown.. Higher
When you're upstairs in the Hi-Pointe club, get excited, because you're actually on the highest point in St. Louis. Granted, your ears won't pop, nor will you be gasping for oxygen--this is the Midwest, after all--but you're high. A rockabilly band pumps out a raucous rhythm, and the place is packed with pseudo-bruisers and faux-swingers. Or maybe you're high and the band is kickin' out some angry punk. Or you're high and some lame white funk band is playing. Or some fantastic DJ is cutting and scratching the latest, grooviest hip hop. Or maybe you're just high.

Get Down
The Hi Pointe is a jack-of-all-genres kind of place, so it's best to call ahead. But the long, rectangular room, while devoid of character, is decent, and both national and local talent of varying degrees of inspiration end up here. But if the band sucks, you have the luxury of abandoning the upstairs and getting a drink or playing pool downstairs.

Damn good music. I ended up here from a recommendation of a friend. This is the place to hear music you may never have heard before or again. For a music scene they have a pretty good beer selection. It's kind of hot, but the beer is cold and the bartenders are quick to refill.

Be careful the close the top bar promptly at 2:00am and eveyone scurrys downstairs to avoid the house lights.

The Hi-Pointe Rocks!. The Hi-Pointe is one of the best clubs in St. Louis to go see live music. Pretty much every style of music is featured, from rap/hip hop to hardcore punk to garage and rockabilly. Something for everyone. Downstairs has a cool neighborhood bar feel to it with a couple of pool tables and booths to hang out and drink. It's a place where lowlife cretins, rockers, college-types and even some yuppies seem to mingle nicely. Upstairs is a full-frontal underground rock'n'roll club that even has all-ages shows occasionally (a rare thing in this day and age!). Lots of wild paintings, graffiti and old posters, flyers and stickers covering almost evey square inch of the walls. Nice big bar, too (and even a few comfy couches to lounge on while waiting for the band to tune up).
