Editorial Review for Fox and Hounds Tavern – by Tricia Musel
The Scene
The bizarre decor at this old-style tavern will hold your attention the entire time you're there. Taxidermy and too many portraits of dogs line the wood-planked walls, and broken in and relaxed is the style. You might feel a sofa spring against your leg while sipping a pint with a friend, but who cares? In the winter the fireplaces are ablaze to warm the room. There usually aren't enough sofas for everyone, so you may have to share one with a stranger. Perhaps that's why the Fox and Hounds has a reputation as a great singles bar. But beware: Everyone's within earshot of everyone else, so discuss personal and private details with caution.
The Food and Booze
Happy hour brings blocks of cheese, an assortment of crackers and the thinnest-crust pizza.

Great decor and it is a nice little spot if you have all the time in the world. With the exception of the first visit when Neil tended bar the service has been AWFUL. Seating is very limited. Good luck finding a spot for four let alone two after 9pm Friday or Saturday. I have been at the bar several times. The first was a blast and we were taken care of however it was a lazy Thursday night. The same came not be said for the weekend visits. Table service was a joke, one visit by the sever no follow up. It has never been the same bar tender in the four or five times I have visited. Each trip has been worse than the time before. I caution you about going here. I would not take friends from in town or out of town here.

I was very hesitant to wander into the pub after reading the last reviewers comments on the bartender. I had heard that the bartender of 20+ years had left the establishment a year or so before my visit, and that he had been replaced with someone with a different sense of humor and style. It has been many years since I partook in the great drinks, cozy atmosphere and the overall "ambiance" of the Fox and Hounds within the bowels of the Cheshire Lodge. I will keep this simple and to the point Cheshire Lodge; don't change a thing. The new bartender was a perfect fit for the overall feel of the bar. I tended bar in my college days and know how it feels to have 20 or 30 people come up to me at last call and ask for the tab to be split up how ever many ways. Anyway, kudos to the bartender for taking care of us and keeping the pub as a whole happy during a very busy evening. I think the last reviewer needs a lesson in "English Pub" etiquette and perhaps a hefty spoon feeding of ambiance as the bartender truly brings the feeling of the Fox and Hounds full circle.
