To die for vegetarian hot and sour soup (canh chua) – I've been searching real hard for a vegetarian vietnamese place for the past couple of years in Chicago and still can't find one! I love Viet food however most Viet food consist of meat and not much veg choices. This past thanksgiving, I went to St-Louis with my husband for a long weekend. My husband surprised me by taking to this LG restaurant. He had read some reviews on it and thought that we might give it a try. I already had some good expectation of the place by first walking in...the fantastic smell of Vietnamese food brought back good memories of my mom's cooking. This place is awesome! The decor is very modern & trendy looking, very clean dining area & washrooms. The service is a little slow but we can't really blame them because we were there at the peak dinner time. The waitress was nice, not very personal but that is fine if you want a good food with reasonably priced dine-in restaurant.

Now food review! The menu has a extensive list of vegetarian options! The hot & sour soup is to die for! Exactly taste like the meat soup but cooked the veg way! I had the vermicelli (non veg) very tasty and my husband had the sesame tofu which is too filling for one person but i am sure if it's shared among a bigger group it will be fine. We highly recommend it!

We left before ordering...will never go back. – Well, we were in the mood for vietnamese food and Pho Grand looked busy, so we decided to try out LG for the first time. We walked in and the place looked nice - good decor and plasma TVs everywhere. It was on a busy Thursday night in St. Louis so the place was hopping. After a few minutes of waiting at the door to be seated, a man comes by and signals to the both of us to come with him. He grabs two menus, walks around the corner and throws the two menus on the table and walks away. Never says anything to us. No big deal, they're busy, so he must be in a hurry. We sit down at the table and I immediately noticed a stench coming from our table. It's a very familiar smell - you know - the smell of wet clothes you accidently left in the washer...for a week. Who ever cleaned the table had used a old nasty table rag from dirty stinky water, contaminated from one table to another. So if they take so little care of the tables...something a customer can clearly see, imagine what kind of unsanitary conditions are in the back of the kitchen...a place you can't see. How clean is the prep table they're cooking? We promptly left and went back to Pho Grand where we had an awesome meal with great service. Don't go to Lemon Grass.

Tricky Business – My girlfriend and I have been to Lemon Grass about 6 or 7 times. I have given this place more then enough chances. It ain't doing it for me, for a number of reasons.

#1. No free refills on the soda pop. Come on. Who doesn't offer free refills these days? The soda comes in tiny glasses, and when I ask for a REFILL, they say, "No problem." They don't say, "We don't offer refills, but you can buy another." So instead of a $1.50 soda, I get 3 sodas totalling $4.50. Shady.

#2. Charge on MINOR substitutions. Lets just say my girl has a delicate palate. No onions on anything and carrots instead of broccoli. So she will request this for most of her dishes and then we'll get slapped with a $1 surcharge. Sneaky.

#3. Sub par food quality. The suaces used in dishes like chiken and snow peas, as well as, beef and broccoli are thick, salty, and gravey like. When it cools, it congeals. On some visits, the food came out luke warm, almost cold. Grody.

#4. Service is inconsistent. Sometimes, we got pretty good service. Other times, we got waiters that would hover all around you, basically chasing us out. And once, we sat for 10 minutes before anyone spoke to us. Sucky.

The reason it does not get 1 star, the apps are good and the noodle soups are yummy. Yet, you can get better quality food, service, and atmosphere at Pho Grand, which is just a couple of blocks down the street. The King and I is better as well. I will not be going back to Lemon Grass.

Don't eat here – I really really really don't recommend anybody to eat in this restaurant. I went there once with my friends. I ordered P2 and one of my friends ordered P4. The eggs cake are SPOILED! I've been in other Vietnamese restaurant a thousand times before and always get the same kind of food but the eggs cake never taste like this one. It was sour and The worse thing is, when my friend talk to the manager of the restaurant about it, he denied about it. We ask our other friends and after they tasted it, they also think that it was spoiled. About a couple hours after eating in that restaurant, my stomach feels funny. I'll never go back to this restaurant.

Best Vietnamese Cuisine in St. Louis – This is my first time message. I actually made this account because I found LemonGrass restaurant to be extremely delightful.

First of all, the speed that the food comes is unbelievable, even when the restaurant is packed. The servers were extremely helpful whenever I needed help choosing an item from the varieties offered by the menu.

The restaurant has actually moved from the location that is listed, down the street to a more fancier setting.

If you are in a hurry, I always find that calling in and ordering carry-out is extremely easy and fast.

Once my dinner arrived, I found the meal to be plentiful and left me satisfied unlike many other asian restaurants.

If you are ever in the St. Louis area, this is definately a place to check out.

I never miss a chance to go! – My husband's friend introduced us to the Lemon Grass and I am addicted to it. It gets an A+ for character. It has these GREAT Lobsters on the wall, plastic chop sticks on the table, and a secretive, hole-in-the wall appeal. How many places can give you that kind of experience?

AND their food is wonderful! Get the Pineapple Beef with Rice and their Spring Rolls. The Lemon Sauce they serve is made in house and is the best I have ever tasted. I wish they sold it because I would be all over it. The people that work there have always given us great service too.

Put simply, I love this place. I live in Columbia, MO and I NEVER miss a trip to the Lemongrass when we are in the St Louis area - I dont care if I am hungry or not - I have to go.

It only takes one meal to realize that this place is a notch above most Vietnamese restaurants. – The Scene
The large prawn lamps on the walls are pure comedy. In contrast, the service is businesslike: Efficient and knowledgeable waitstaff keep everything running smoothly. There's almost always a decent-size crowd, and the smells coming from the kitchen are, quite simply, intoxicating.

The Food
The menu is expansive but not overwhelming. It's got your tried-and-true items such as pho and Vietnamese spring rolls, but there are also some more unusual dishes for those wanting to enhance their Vietnamese vocabulary. Try the lotus root salad: It's a tantalizing mixture of carrots, lotus root strips, shrimp, thinly sliced pork, basil and lemon sauce. Another standout is dau hu xao xa ot, a stir-fried tofu with minced lemon grass and a spicy yellow curry sauce. If you've got room for desert, go with the sweet potato flan surrounded with tapioca or the banana pudding. They're both fantastic.

Rude service! Never again! – The food is allright, although I have tasted much tastier Vietnamese cuisine (I'm from southern CA where asian food is abundant). The worst part of the visit was our server who was unfriendly, unaccommodating, and downright rude at the end. She refused any special requests and when does your order of soda come brought out as an empty glass and a can of coke? This must be their "subtle" hint that there are no refills. She hardly checked on us and did the bare minimum of her job as our waitress- substandard service does not constitute a standard tip. Then she actually had the audacity to become angry and confrontational about the tip we did leave her. I just find this entirely unacceptable and she was speaking some choice vietnamese words as we walked out of the restaurant. Stay away if you wish to have a pleasant all-around dining experience!

Consistently good!! – Felt the need to say how good this restaurant always is, and even packed the service is consistently good. This is where we had dinner after making the attempt at the completely horrible Le Petit Paris next door - Lemongrass saved an otherwise dreadful evening! No one I have taken to Lemongrass has ever been disappointed! Simply wonderful food, simply wonderful staff, amazingly good price!
