The Scene – Any raps and taps heard at this Victorian mansion are likely to be authentic, so this B&B is a traveler's best bet for genuine haunting. The 33-room mansion was built in the 1860s and brewing baron William Lemp mistakenly moved his family into the expansive house in 1876. The tragic demise of his family followed, including numerous suicides and deaths in the building. – – The Amenities – Renovated in the '60s, this inn is a popular bed and breakfast with four suites, each named after and previously belonging to a specific family member. Great Place to Stay - Great Place to Eat

by 4693 at Citysearch

I have eaten at the Mansion many, many times, and I am currently "sleeping my way" through the Mansion. I have hit 3 rooms, with 3 to go. It is pricey, but it is a great place nonetheless. If you come here looking to watch TV, then maybe you want the Holiday Inn instead. The charm and draw of this place is how open everyone is to let you explore it, if you are staying. If you go to "free" programs enough, you learn quickly that it is always best to call ahead and see if there is an unannounced reservation required. I can personally attest that the staff in all my trips there are polite, courteous and attentive. Great place to visit, whether or not you stay. You're visiting history and a great ambience. 16,000 thumbs up for the old gal!

  • Pros: Best food anywhere, rooms are great to stay in
  • Cons: Not good for wheelchair accessibility

lemp mansion sucks

Lemp Mansion Sucks. The only think it has going for it is architectural. If you are interested in its haunted history you can go walk through the museum for free but don't spend any money at this place. The staff is rude and condescending. They clearly do not care to have children there.

I arrived on wed. night for the Edgar Allen Poe reading only to be told that the free event was 'sold out'. When I question them as to how that was possible they explained that all the seats were reserved in advance. This program was widely advertised. If reservations were necessary, this fact should have been specified. Many people came, were berated for not having had the sense to made reservations, were told that Lemp did not have control over what was picked up and advertised by the local papers or radio stations and that the website suggested reservations. It takes a lot of nerve tell a bold face lie like that when a framed picture of how Lemp had advertised the event on their website was sitting in plain view at the entry way. There is no mention of reservations. There was not even a suggestion that it was possible to reserve seats.

This was meant to be a fun educational event for the group that I came with included 2 adults, two 9yr olds, an 11 yr old, and a 16yr old college sophomore. These are very well behave, very intelligent, home schooled children who went and looked at the museum and then sat quietly as we waiting to see if seats would materialize. Some did and the hostess/program organizer sat a couple of women, who arrived without reservations after we did, in them. When I questioned her about this she said 'this isn't some sort of a government program'. I haven't the foggiest idea what that meant aside from 'children are not welcome here'.

We give Lemp 12, well educated, interesting, articulate, multi-lingual, sophisticated, not easily offended, opposable thumbs, down.

...and, yes. even the youngest members of our group were offended.

NO CABLE TELEVISION! AHHHHH!

by dsn811 at Citysearch

My wife and I stayed at the Lemp Mansion for my 29th birthday. We had planned a romantic getaway. We booked the Lavender Suite which is the nicest and biggest room in the mansion. When we got to the room the first thing I did was turn on the television. I was SHOCKED to see that they didn't have cable. I don't know if it's me or not, but I expect cable television in a room that I'm being charged $205 a night. I just have to watch Sportscenter before going to bed. We reported the issue to management, but we were brushed off. I think maybe twenty or thirty years ago cable in a room was considered a luxury, but in the 21st century it's not. I was stuck with 7 local channels which all had a lot of static. The room was very clean and came with a little basket of snacks and two small containers of wine. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was nice too! Some advice: The Lavender suite overlooks interstate 55 so there was some highway noise. If noise would be an issue to you I would recommend the Charles Lemp Room which is on the other side of the house and overlooks the garden. The Charles Lemp room doesn't have it's own bathroom though...

  • Pros: Room was clean and nicely decorated.
  • Cons: NO CABLE and some Highway noise.
