Editorial Review for Yemanja Brasil – by Tricia Musel

The Scene
Tucked away in the Benton Park neighborhood, Yemanja is a secret that shouldn't be kept. The dazzling facade on the corner of Missouri and Pestalozzi foreshadows this international restaurant that feels more like a cafe. If you haven't figured it out from the name, the cuisine is Brasilian (that's the right spelling if you're from the country) and the music is a little too loud in this brick-and-wood restoration.

The Food
The secrets are visible when looking at the entrees, usually a combination of garlic, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, cilantro, rice and black beans. Vegetarians should try the risotto jardinena, which is a healthy choice of peas, corn, red and green peppers, raisins and rice--perfect for a light but filling meal.

Food is inedible service nice but no match for the food. Waste of time and energy. Friendly staff cannot overcome tasteless drech!

I have known this restaurant since its one room humble beginnings. It remains my favorite place in St. Louis. The food is excellent, always great. The creative touch of the owner is everywhere: the food, the walls, and the fireplace mantles. I appreciate too her dedication to helping Benton Park make a comeback. She has been here for > 10 yrs now. Hard to believe. It should not be hidden!. Come and Find it. You will not regret it. Be sure to ask for the Brazilian Green Drink if you are not opposed to alcohol. It is divine.

Pros: Food is great, take time to talk to the owner and you will see why I came to love it and remain a fan.

Cons: None, it can be loud if there at Mardi Gras time, or if Band is playing
