A St. Louis treasure....
I don't know where this other post came from. My family (4 runners in all) has been going to the Running Center for years and I have NEVER had a negative experience with them. I bought my first pair of running shoes from them in 1997 when I started running in high school and thousands of miles later, they're still my go-to guys. They definitely know their stuff!
Like their page says, they all run, they all compete and they will look at your feet/stride/the way you walk to find the best possible shoe for you. It also helps if you bring in an old running shoe, so they can see how your feet fall.
I've been out of St. Louis for several years and took a break from my running, so it's probably been 6 years since I'd been in there for shoes. I went in tonight, and without my even saying anything, Ken (the owner) recognized me after a few minutes, remembered my family, my high school--I was impressed. If you're a beginner, there's no better place to go, but even if you've been running for years, you can still benefit from going to the Running Center. They're friendly, knowledgeable and it's certainly not the type of experience you're going to get at a chain.
Owner is extremely arrogant, rude. If you want to be treated like a second class citizen, buy your shoes at the Running Center. They are not afraid to let you know they think they are better than everyone who walks through the doors. Furthermore, they know NOTHING about how female runners require a different type of shoe.
