FAROTTO'S CATERING

You Are Ordering the Wrong Thing
by Strode Wallace at Citysearch
nbkp2y7 you are ordering the wrong stuff. Farotto's was started by the late Lou Farotto in 1957. For 23 years it was a three table take out pizza joint. The menu featured thin crust pizza, Italian roast beef sandwiches, toasted ravioli, spaghetti and meat balls or meat sauce and dinner salads. That was it.
That is what made them famous. 25-years away from St. Louis, on every visit back my first stop was Farotto's. Those are the items you need to order stay away from anything else.
The pizza comes out of the original ovens installed by Lou. The new upscale joint Villa Farotto in Chesterfield Valley makes the same pizza, but it doesn't taste the same. Most believe it is because of the ovens.
Stick to the original menu items and you will do fine. Stay away from the expanded menu items.
- Pros: Pizza, Roast Beef, Spaghetti & Meat Sauce
- Cons: the other stuff
Third time's a charm?

Having read the other reviews on Farotto's, I guess that I'm ordering the wrong entrees. The chicken parmesan dinner that I had last week was average, at best. What flavor the rice pilaf HAD was not good and the side veggies were sparce and tasteless. The chicken breast was okay, but with beverage/taxes/tip and after you add extra for a tiny side salad, the average tasting meal was $25. I've had way better food for less $$$. On my last visit to this restaurant, I remember leaving the restaurant underwhelmed, and then my credit card was charged twice for my dinner.
- Pros: Good Location - Courteous Service
- Cons: Overpriced
Best Toasted Ravs in St. Louis!
by astl at Citysearch
The toasted ravioli at Farotto's are second to none! There food is awesome, has a good location, and they have a small, but great porch for eating outdoors on a summer night. Definitely a great St. Louis restaurant!
- Pros: Ambience, Food
- Cons: Busy!
