Food was bland.
So a coworker suggested Sunset 44 as a good place to dine. I reviewed their menu online and was excited by many of the disheson their menu. My daughter and I decided to go for dinner yesterday. We're always looking for new places to dine. I ordered the chicken two ways chicken pot pie and fried chicken. I was sadly disappointed when my entree arrived with what looked like a piece of meat from a cornish hen. However, the pot pie looked delicious as did the roasted veggies. I cut a piece of the chicken and immediately grabbed my napkin to dispose of it. The chicken had no seasoning on it. It had the taste of raw chicken. The veggies were flavorful which lets me know that someone uses seasoning in the kitchen. I then tasted the broth of my pot pie and added salt and pepper. Not as bland as the "fried chicken" but needed a little kick. I then took a bite of chicken from the pot pie and it tasted
just like the "fried chicken". I could not stomach eating either of them and sent my food back. I then ordered the french onion soup. It arrived with parsley sprinklied all over it which threw off the onion soup taste. I couldn't eat it and asked for the check. I have never been anywhere, where the food was so bland and the staff did not seem to care that as a patron, I wasn't pleased. Needless to say I left there with a MAJOR attitude!
Excellent food & service. We've dined at Sunset 44 numerous times over the last 5 years and have never been anything other than pleased with our entire experience. My husband & I have gone there on an evening out, we've taken our 3 children, and we've gone with friends & their children (total of 7 kids). We've always felt welcome and comfortable. The service is always fantastic. The lavosh & cheese spread are irresistable, the bread (different each time) is always enjoyable, the crab cakes are incredible, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I'm not a big fan of their creme brulee but the other desserts are very good.
always a great experience. i always have wonderful food at this restaurant. the service is great. the bread with the meal and the flat bread (lavosh) and beer cheese is one of the reasons why i continue to go there. it is a great place that is hidden away in kirkwood. i strongly recommend.
