Horrible experience at Syberg's Gravois. I visited Syberg's on Gravois on December 30th 2010 at about 7pm, for dinner with my husband and daughter. We walked throught the smoky bar area to the designated "Wait to be seated " spot. A man was blowing cigarette smoke right in our faces. We were seated upstairs, and our waitress took our drink and appetizer orders. I was relieved to be seated away from the bar because my daughter has asthma and can not be exposed to cigarette smoke. Shortly, however, a waiter brought an ashtray to a neighboring table and we were informed by a waitress that the entire restaurant was "smoking area" on this night (A thursday night). With common sense finally prevailing, the "No Smoking" ban in public restaurants was passed over a year ago. It takes effect in just a few days. So I guess the entire restaurant being designated as smoking area was an act of defiance. But it is no joking matter. My daughter started experiencing bronchospasm within a few minutes of those around us lighting up. We had to leave shortly after the arrival of our entrees. Our waitress seemed surprised at our displeasure and asked, "What do you expect me to do about it?" The manager stated "The upstairs is supposed to be non-smoking". However, it was obvious to everyone that there was simply not a non-smoking area available tonight - two days before the smoking ban begins. I hold Syberg's Gravois directly responsible for my daughter's asthma attack. Even after the smoking ban takes effect, we will NEVER be back. They have now lost our business forever, and I am telling all of my friends about this horrible experience.
don't get it to go. My husband LOVES Syberg's wings...but hates how messy wings are so he get's them to go..No problem there. I ordered the chicken strips.. not hard to mess up right? And they "travel well". We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Arriving exactly 20 minutes later my husband had to wait 15 minutes...still not that big of a deal if they were making the food fresh. I didn't expect the fries to be any good...styrofoam containers and hot fries just don't work. ..That might have been the issue if the food was actually HOT when it was put in the container...The 3 chicken tenders were hard as rocks, chewy and dry.. They looked like they had been sitting around all day and they re-fried them in an attempt to heat them back up...The honey mustard was watery and flavorless... ( and this was at 6:00 in the evening...not late night) Did they wait for a to go order to get rid of them? hmmmmmm...My husband enjoyed the small salad that came with my dinner...and his wing's were awesome....But if he get's wings from there again? I'll order from somewhere else.
Nice place.. Husband introduced be to Syberg's when we went to visit his parents. We were seated promptly, but there was quite a lengthy wait for food even though there was hardly anybody else there. I've got to admit though that their toasted ravioli was out of this world, and Husband had no problems wolfing down his wings. The service was good but nothing spectacular. Good beer selection. I'd go again for the rav's!
Sybergs Gravois.
I don't agree with your review. We go there to watch the Cardinals, Rams and the Blues games!!
We just watched the Olympics there and I was very impressed with the way they changed the T.V's in the bar. The chicken wings and the shark chunks were fabulous as always!!! My parents started going there 20 years ago and I carry on the tradition!!! They must be doing something right and P.S. the gumbo is the best I've ever had!!!!
You obviously need to revisit Sybergs on Gravois!!!
That menu has been gone for years!!!! Why don't you try the chicken livers, they're awesome!!!
Shark may be the signature dish, but the burger's top-notch too..
The Scene
The superhero "Sharkguy" on Syberg's comic-book menu is your first clue to the restaurant's claim to fame: shark bites. Noise from exuberant sports fans in the adjacent bar makes it hard to talk, and there's not much to look at besides the flickering TV screens, so be prepared to simply eat, drink and be merry.
The Food
Seafood is the undisputed champion among the many contenders on Syberg's extensive menu. The aforementioned shark bites come with butter for dipping. Try the lumpy, spicy Louisiana gumbo or the tropical coconut shrimp served with tangy honey-mustard dipping sauce.
syberg's downtown on market. Syberg's was a good choice until recently. Service has been slow to the point of making us late back to work and the quality of the food has been way below average. Today it took us over an hour to get 3 salads, one bowl of gumbo (cold) and two fried fish sandwiches. The excuse from our waitress was that there is only one fish fryer and she was waiting too. A good waitress would not have waited an hour before seeing what the hold-up was. Other customers arriving after we did got their food and were finished eating before 3 of our meals arrived. We are "regulars" at this location. Regular enough that the wait staff recognizes us. There was no excuse for our experience today and we will not return for a long time to come.
