Absolutely Incredible.
Some of the best Vietnamese food I have EVER had. It's NO DOUBT the best Vietnamese restaurant in St Louis (yes, better than Pho Grand). When you get the menu, you can be a little overwhelmed because there are 200+ items on it, but damn, just about anything you order is delicious.
The best time I had here was when I went with a group of 7 friends and we all ordered different dishes and got to taste everything. It was WONDERFUL! I don't know why there are negative reviews of this place, the only way you could complain about this place is if you don't like Vietnamese food to begin with. You gotta check it out.
Horrible atmosphere, mediocre food..
The televisions were BLARING with what sounded like video-game sound effects. And the food! Mediocre at best, overall heavy-handed. The spring rolls were not memorable, the sauce was way too sweet, and the pho was edible but forgettable.
Sure, Vietnamese food is typically inexpensive -- this was no exception. But the food was not enough to make up for an overall negative experience. I am not going back.
Which is bigger, the phone book or the restaurant's menu? Decide for yourself..
What you'll find
An encyclopedic menu. Vietnam Star offers what has to be the most elaborate menu of Vietnamese food available in St. Louis. The menu literally flows for pages, and lists some 289 items from pho soup to eel, frog and duck. It's mind-boggling.
Food
Start with banh cong. These resemble muffins, but are heavier and topped with a whole shrimp. You then break the cake apart into pieces, roll it with lettuce, Asian basil, perilla and nuoc mam. Also try ga xao lan, chicken stir fried with coconut milk, lemon grass and curry sauce and cua rang muoi nho, blue crab sauteed in garlic and chili.
The Service
The staff is incredibly friendly and eager to recommend items from the tome-ish menu. They're also quite happy to just chat.--Matt Hilburn

Vegetarian dream.
My very favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the St.Louis area, and one of the best in the U.S.
Extensive vegetarian menu, including excellent golden fried tofu. Tofu can be added to any item if desired. Try the tofu with lemongrass, garlic and chili's, or Tofu and veggies in curry.
The Lotus root sald (request vegetarian) is the best in the world and largest portion of any restaurant.
I cannot say enough. Closed Tuesday's. Try the Mai Lee too, closed Monday's
